Fun with Fiction

I’ve been involved in fiction of all lengths this week, and had great fun with all of it.

I submitted another 100-word flash to Flashshot.  I woke up one morning with the complete story in my head and actually remembered it long enough to write down. I love it when stuff like that happens.

Next, I finished the first story for the Ex Factor anthology.  It’s about 3,500-words and deals with the reunion of two old high school friends. This one might be a little too graphic or raw for the editors, but I won’t know till I see their feedback.  The other two stories I plan to submit are in the works.  One is about a family reunion gone wrong and the other features a soldier coming home from Iraq.  (Yes, my take on the ex factor is a little twisted from the usual ex-spouse/ex-lover subject matter.  As stated before, my drummer plays only for me.)

I finished up a proposal for the freshly revised Concerto Diavolo and submitted it to a publisher I shall not name due to my superstitions.

And last, I am thoroughly enjoying reading “Seven By Seven,” an anthology of short, short stories based on the seven deadly sins.  Each of the seven authors contributed seven stories to the book, one for each sin.  I’m trying to read it one story at a time so I can savor it.  Every time I have a five-minute break, I pick it up and read another story.  It’s like candy for the brain! There are some wonderful twists and turns in this book.  I highly recommend it.  If you’re so inclined, you can purchase your copy at Wolfmont Publishing.

Till next time,

Jill.

The Ex Anthology

I’ve been invited to submit short stories for inclusion in an anthology due to be published later this year!  The Ex-Factor, conceived by Tonya “Katt” Dunsmore, will feature stories focusing on revenge/poetic justice meted out to exes. Imagine the possibilities: ex-spouses, ex-lovers, ex-bosses! I should have a field day with this one. Writing for the crime/suspense genre is a great way to relieve festering frustrations.

Two ideas are brewing, and I’ll be able to submit up to three.

The other authors included in the anthology are: Frank Zafiro, Colin Conway, BJ Bourg, Sunny Frazier, Earl Staggs, Tony Burton and Katt Dunsmore.

Many thanks to Frank Zafiro for the good word to Katt. I am really excited to have my work included with writers of this caliber.

The proposed publication date is October 2006. Visit my blog often for updates.

Till next time,

Jill.

A Successful Week

My two flash fiction stories have been accepted for publication later this year in Flashshot.  “Flight School” is 100 words long and “Trapped” measures up at a lean 95.  Flash fiction is great fun to write.  It’s a real challenge to tell an entire story in so few words.  Flash fiction is great fun to read, too!  If you’d like to receive a daily dose of fiction delivered to your e-mail box every morning, subscribe with a click here.

The article on The White Horse Pike hit the newsstands on Sunday 4/2 in The Philadelphia Inquirer.  I didn’t realize it would be the cover story to the Neighbors section—big surprise!  Despite not mentioning my website URL, I have had a few visitors there, and I can tell some books are selling from watching my rank change on Amazon.com.  I hope readers find it enjoyable.

Till next time,

Jill.
