Others have written stories of haunted violins. But
I'd never heard about anything like my Concerto Diavolo.
Parker Fitch witnessed the September 11th
attacks on New York. She is traumatized and flees the city for the solitude of Catamount, a tiny fictional town set right
along the border of upstate New York and western New England. Catamount is not on any map, but I could locate it blindfolded
in the middle of a moonless night.
Funny thing about Catamount--Rex Kendall, the cop, is the only citizen under the
age of 30.
Parker's citified ways are a source of consternation for Catamount's General Store owner and most respected
matron, Gertie Castle. But even before she can take Parker to task for her rude manners, Gertie finds she has bigger worries.
Parker's arrival seems to have launched a sexual revolution in town. Peg Notebaum has taken up with the newsman, Mac MacFall.
Gertie can't keep K-Y Jelly on the store shelves. Cookie Orrio dies in bed with his wife Sallie.
Gertie knows the
force behind recent events. She confides in Doc Peters, but Doc, being a man of science, dismisses Gertie's suspicions. Recent
events are nothing like the horrors of 1975.
Or are they?
I hope Concerto Diavolo will pique
a publisher's interest. I plan both a prequel, featuring Gertie as a young woman, and a sequel. Visit this site again for
future announcements.
Concerto Diavolo is a winner in Magellan Books' New Novel Contest
2004.
