ever since I can remember. But
I was always too afraid to start. A few years ago, when I was downsized out of my job, I evaluated my options and talked to
friends. I decided that it was time to write the novel; great or not so great.
I did research. I read books.
I talked to authors. I turned my spare bedroom into a writer’s den. I lurked on writers’ e-groups. And I wrote.
The story poured out of me. I was sure Red Passion would be the next best seller. I wrote and re-wrote queries and
synopses. I was a regular at the post office.
And then the rejection letters
began to arrive. One after another, the mailman delivered self-addressed blows to my ego. I began to dread the daily walk
to my mailbox.
Thankfully, several editors and
agents took the time to write personal notes on their form rejection letters. I had talent! But I had the wrong setting.
“Moscow won’t sell.” I happen to think Moscow is a pretty cool place, but an unpublished author with no
following best not argue with the experts. Instead, I started a new novel.
Since receiving those rejection
letters I've written two novels and a slew of short stories. I've published Red Passion and 3 short stories. I edited
an anthology of wonderful short horror stories and I remain hopeful that the two novels will pique an editor's interest. Two
more novels are in the works, and the ideas just keep coming!
I’ve lived all over this
great country and in a couple of others. I’ve worked at some interesting jobs. I can drive a Zamboni. I worked
on an assembly line and made a worse mess than Lucy and Ethel in the candy factory. (I was gluing labels onto aerosol cans.
Draw your own conclusions.) I can pill a cat without being shredded to ribbons in the process. I can grow a tomato and then
turn it into a mean spaghetti sauce.
I hope to find a story for all
of my experiences, and for those yet to come.
