Bonnie Enke’s Chocolate Chip Toffee Bars

 

2-1/2 cups flour                                    1 cup coarsely chopped nuts

2/3 cup packed brown sugar      1 can (14oz.) sweetened  condensed milk

3/4 cup butter/margarine            1 egg

2 cups chocolate chips                1-3/4 cups SKOR English  toffee bits

 

        Heat oven to 350.  Grease a 13x9x2 baking pan.  In large bowl, stir together flour and brown sugar.  Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Add eggs and mix well.  Stir in 1-1/2 cups chocolate chips and nuts.  Reserve 1-1/2 cups mixture.  Press remaining crumb mixture onto bottom of prepared pan.  Bake 10 min.  Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over hot crust; top with 1-1/2 cups toffee bits.  Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture and remaining 1/2 cup choc. chips over top.  Bake 25 to 30 minutes of until golden brown.  Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup toffee bits. Cool completely in pan.  Cut into bars.  About 48 bars.
