This is the Stephen Partridge house circa 1840 located at No. 1
Highland Street. Stephen Partridge was a harnessmaker.
In 1833 Amos Shumway sold this 1 acre of land to Stephen Partridge. Milford
Street had not yet been built, so the south side of Partridge's lot was bordered by Elias Mann of 200 Main Street, and the
southeastern part of the lot faced the West Parish Meetinghouse Common. In 1835, Partridge sold the northern half
of his lot (3 Highland) to Joel Partridge. In 1840 when Stephen Partridge mortgaged his lot (1 Highland) to Nathaniel P Clark, it had been divided again, in two by the new road to Milford. Stephen
was a harnessmaker and stablekeeper in 1840, he worked in a boot factory like most of his neighbors.
