3 Highland Street circa 1843.
The Elihu White (painter) House.

In 1833 Amos Shumway sold this 1 acre of land to Stephen Partridge.  Milford Street had not yet been built, so the south side of Partridge's lot was bordered by Elias Mann of 200 Main Street, and the southeastern part of the lot faced the West Parish Meetinghouse Common.   In 1835, Partridge sold the northern half of his lot (3 Highland) to Joel Partridge.  In 1840 when Stephen Partridge mortgaged his lot (1 Highland) to Nathaniel P Clark, it had been divided again, in two by the new road to Milford.
