Before1820, this house lot was part of woodland acreage owned by Ralph
Mann. When Ralph died his heirs sold his land northwest of the West Parish Meetinghouse, broken into individual lots.

Metcalf, brother of Samuel Metcalf (2 Highland), bought the ½ acre property and built his Homestead and dwelling house there. His
wife, Melinda, died in1854. When Austin died in 1886, his property consisted of the ½ acre house lot, the house, a barn,
and 6 acres of sproutland. The estate was left to his nephews and niece: Samuel Newman Metcalf, Lucius M Pierce,
and Laura A. Pierce. (Probate 24904). They sold the homestead lot to Milton A Fales (583:343).
