Circa 1855 the Warren Grant house at 11 Highland Street.
Before 1820, this house lot was part of woodland acreage owned by Ralph Mann.
When Ralph died, his heirs sold his land northwest of the West Parish Meetinghouse, broken into individual lots. Harrison
O. Grant purchased this lot in 1848, but it was Warren Grant who built the dwelling house in the early 1850s. In the
1850 census, Harrison and Warren are listed as peddlars and the value of 11 Highland was $150. Warren sold the lot and
house to Harrisons wife Sarah J in 1855. Sarah lost the house by defaulting on her mortgage in 1862.
In the 1860 census, Charles Grant (bootmaker) lived there with his wife and 6 children.
The value of 11 Highland has increased to $700.
