It was the first residence built in the Rabbit Hill area.
4/7/1815 Jabez Shumway to Elias Mann (the son of Ralph and Eunice Mann of Medway), housewright 2.5 acres on
the Hartford & Dedham Turnpike, west of the West parish meetinghouse no buildings listed. In 1822, Elias died
at age 33.
His brother Paris became guardian of his children. The balance after his debts were paid was $59.91. (Probate #1865) Executors
Inventory: 2.5 acres of land with dwelling house and barn. He left his wife Mary Abigail Bowman of Westborough, daughter Marion
Ann Abigail and son Elias. Dower to his widow: …beginning at the front door and running to the front gate…running
with the fence to the corner of the sheds near the meetinghouse…hence to the northeast corner of the barn running 12.5
feet on the north side of the barn, hence running through the barn including 12.5 feet of barn and from the southeast
corner of said barn to a stake opposite the north door of the house straight line with the south side of the barn, hence to
the center of said north door of the house…also set off a lot of land (206), ¾ acre on the west side of the estate
adjoining land of Daniel Nourse {Norfolk County Map 1853: E. Mann estate}

(1836) 1843.
4/28/1834 Norfolk County Deed: 105:38 Paris Mann (guardian of the minor children of the
late Elias Mann) to Eliel Metcalf, yeoman 100 rods on the Hartford and Dedham Turnpike, west of other lot belonging to Mann
heirs. No buildings listed. Eliel built a house and barn by 1843
11/6/1843 Mortgage 114:21 Eliel Metcalf, yeoman to the West Parish Society 100 rods with dwelling house
and barn. Eliel Metcalf died in 1851. He left his wife Letitia B., daughter Letitia L. (b.1837), and a son Elial
F. (b. 1846) In 1853, the Metcalf family bought a small triangle of land from Stephen Partridge that would connect their
house lot to the road to Milford.
10/20/1853 Norfolk County Deed: 226:26 Stephen Partridge, yeoman to Letitia B. Metcalf,
Letitia L. Metcalf, and Eliel F. Metcalf 3 cornered piece of land of 3.9 rods.
3/27/1865 Norfolk County Deed: 331:122 Letitia B. Metcalf and Letitia L. Metcalf
to Alvan Wight “Estate of late Eliel Metcalf” 1 acre with buildings.

4/28/1838 Norfolk County Deed: 133:41 Paris
Mann (guardian of the minor children of Elias Mann) to John Cushing, a tailor from Vermont 90 rods on the Hartford and
Dedham Turnpike, with Elial Metcalf to the east. No buildings listed. John
lived there with his wife Sarah Maria Pond, and children Hellen M., Ebelin S., and John W. He rented his tailor
shop located at 195 Main Street, next door to the Parsonage, and across from the Meeting House.
1/9/1884 Norfolk County Deed:
553:271 Mortgage John Cushing to Francis Metcalf “3/4 acre with buildings thereon”. John Cushing
died in 1888. His son John inherited his house and land.

206 Main St circa 1939. This is the site of the C. Thompson Adams florist
shop of the 1870's. This area was a woodland in the early to mid-1800s. The two newer houses just west of
it (208 and 210) were built on the C Thompson Adams greenhouse properties.
