Islam is a way of life, deticated to summtting oneself to Allah (God, The Creator).

"O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allah), Who created you and those who were before you, so that you may become Al Muttaqun (The Pious)." 2:21

Its concept is based upon five pillars, which are:

1.Shahada - This is to state that "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" or "Laa Ilaha ila llah, Muahmmadan Rasull ullah"

2. Salaah - Prayer. Muslims must make the 5 obligatory Prayers each day. Constant, sincere worship and remeberance of our Lord keeps us stronger in faith and away from evil.

3. Zakaah -  Giving charity to the poor or less wealthy. This is also obligatory. Muslims give 2.5% of their wealth at the end of the year to those whom cannot afford to pay zakaah themselves.  Zakaah can also be a purification of the soul.

4. Sawm - Fasting. This is the obligatory fast observed during the Islamic Month of Ramadan. This is a fast done only for Allah. It helps purify the soul and rid us of past sins. This fast is held between sunrise and sunset daily during that month; which last 29 or 30 days depending upon the sighting of the new moon.

5. Hajj - Pilgrimage to Mecca. This pilgrimage must be done in each muslim's life if they can afford it. This is a Deed (like the rest) that is done only for Allah. Hajj is a series of rituals performed by the muslims, to remember Allah and His Mercy, to beg Allah for forgiveness, and to invoke Allah for the things we need.

Without these 5 pillars, being Muslim can not even began for a person. These things are incumbent upon the true believer of Islam.

Once you have established the five pillars that uphold Islam, you must now have Absolute faith. Faith in what - One might ask.... Six main aspects of faith that branches out and connects all parts of Islam.

The 6 Articles of Faith

  1. Belief in Allah (& His Oneness)
  2. Belief in His Angels (They vary in Numbers, Sizes, and Rank, and are not white, blond haired, blue eyed women, like we see on television.)
  3. Belief in His Prophets (Including Adam, Noah/Nuh, Moses/Musa, Abraham/Ibrahim, Jesus/Isa, and YES ... Muhammad, born 1400 years ago{with his Sunnah/tradition}- May Allah's Peace Bleassings be upon them all)
  4. Belief in His Books (This Includes the Quran, The Old Testiment/Turah and The New Testiment/ Injiil)
  5. Belief in The Day of Judgement (Every single human being will be judged and will be held accountable for their actions from this life)
  6. Belief in Al Qadr (His Decree) (Everything that has happened, is happening, and that will happen is meant to be and is written in the book.  And no (moving) living creature is there on earth but its provision is due from Allâh. And He knows its dwelling place and its deposit (in the uterous, grave, etc.). all is in a Clear Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz - the Book of Decrees with Allâh). (Surah - Hud 11:6) )

So now can you answer these questions:

Who is your Lord?

What is your Religion?

 Who is Your Prophet?

Al-Bara' b. 'Azib reported Allaah's Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) as saying: This verse:" Allaah grants steadfastness to those who believe with firm word," was rereaied in connection with the torment of the grave. It would be said to him: who is your lord? And he would say: Allaah is my Lord and Muhammad is my Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam), and that is (what is implied) by the words of Allaah, the Exalted:" Allaah keeps steadfast those who believe with firm word in this world and in the Hereafter."  Sahih Muslim

’ So his soul is returned to his body and there come to him two angels who make him sit up and they say to him, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He says, ‘Allaah.’ They say, ‘What is your religion?’ He says, ‘My religion is Islam.’ They say, ‘Who is this man who was sent among you?’ He says, ‘He is the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4753; Ahmad, 18063 – this version was narrated by him. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1676.         Sahih Muslim
