Character of The Glen of Imaal Terrier
The Glen of Imaal Terrier is a wonderful animal full of playfulness,
amusement, and adoration for its owner. It seems that some Glens do
obedience work quite readily, always obeying, with the pleasing of their
master their top priority, and sometimes, it seems they only pretend to be
obedient!
Glen of Imaal Terriers 'talk' to many of their owners, if a toy or bone
has been pushed under a piece of furniture, many of them will 'call' you to
come and help! It is also said that they are very discerning of strangers,
intuitively knowing if the person has good or bad intentions. They are a

cheerful lot, wanting very much to please their master or mistress, seemingly
being extremely upset upon being scolded. It doesn't often take more than
one sharp scolding to make sure they don't repeat the infraction. Most
Glens put up patiently with any thing you or the kids ask of then, whether it
is grooming or being pushed in a baby carriage, quite often it is done without
complaint.

All of the Glens love long walks in the woods or on city sidewalks, adapting
readily to life in an apartment, or on a farm. Barking seems to vary as to how much
is allowed by the master. Glen of Imaal Terriers are classified as silent working
dogs, but excellent watch dogs. They should bark an alarm when necessary, but
should keep quiet when there is nothing to be upset about. Definitely discourage
any wayward barking in a pup.
The one thing that is continually said of them that they are a breed full of
personality, love, courage, and intelligence. What a dog!
