A Rigorous , Two-Year Program

IB Students are required to take a minimum of 3 High Level (HL)courses. They must take courses in each sector of the hexagon, plus a course in the Theory of Knowledge. Other courses
may be Standard Level (SL). There should be a concurrancy of learning. This year's IB course offerings are:
  • IB World Literature 1 (HL)
  • IB Spanish B 1 (SL)
  • IB World History of the Americas:Modern (HL)
  • IB Chemistry 1 (SL)
  • IB Art & Design 1 (HL)
  • IB Research Practicum 1
  • IB Theory of Knowledge 1

The Three Core Requirements

  • Theory of Knowledge : This course encourages critical thinking about knowledge itself. It is taught over a two year period and raises questions about knowledge within each discipline.
  • CAS: Creativity, Action, Service : CAS is a framework for students to take on new roles outside of school as part of the learning process. The activities are completed over a two year period.
  • Extended Essay: Each IB Diploma Candidate is expected to complete a 4000 word extended essay. Students select a subject area and define their own topic. This is also done over the two year period. This prepares them for independent research at the university level.
