Move
over Oscar. North Shore Animal League America's star-studded DogCatemy Awards Gala is THE much anticipated red carpet soiree honoring pups in award-winning videos.
Move over Jon Stewart. Mistress of Ceremonies, Jodi Applegate is the quintessential host - poised, perky, and a pooch
lover to boot.
Four-legged celebrities, sporting their finest doggy couture, grabbed their favorite human escorts and scampered to Capitale
to participate in New York City's only fido-friendly black-tie gala. Fashionable fidos strolled the red carpet, posed for
the puparazzi, and best of all - raised money to support North Shore Animal League America's mission of rescuing pets
throughout the world and placing them in loving homes.

DogCatemy fever hit New York City this fall as celebripups prepared their video submissions in the categories "Best Pawformance"
"Best Dogumentary" "Best Tail-Waggin Comedy," "Best Musical," & "Best in Show" - all in anticipation of winning the most
coveted DogCatemy Award. And they did not disappoint.
Toni Senecal, Fox 5's entertainment reporter, along with
a cadre of celebrity presenters, including our very own Eli Biehl and Bella
Starlet Dog, had two-legged guests on the edge of their seats and four-legged guests crossing their paws as the
DogCatemy awards were announced. And the winners were . . . well, of course all of the pups rescued by North Shore Animal
League America . . . and . . .

Jilli Dog, the Poker-playing dog, is an example of a dog that is way more than just a pretty face.
I am continually amazed by the doggy functions. One seems to outdo the next.

BELLA STARLET DOGCATEMIES 2007
Bella Starlet Dog nominated for Best Musical at this year's DogCatemies and she
presented the Best Tail Waggin' Comedy Award. She received the Red Carpet Performance Award.
We are all so thrilled with the outcome of our 2nd Annual DogCatemy Awards Gala! It was a wonderful event and a huge success.
I want to thank everyone for all of their support, love and participation.
Bianca was an award winner for the second year in a row!! Check out the winning videos on the site. Bianca dedicated her
win to Isaboo, Rachael Ray's pit bull mix who was in attendance as well. Fanoula, Katie and Billy Joel's pug was thrilled
to be there as well, wearing her diamond tiara and sniffing her buddy, Bianca!
Great job to Devera and everyone else at North Shore for putting together a spectacular event.
That evening we debuted the new PSAs that were made possible by Birds Nest Productions; so a very special THANK YOU to
Avis Richards. It was so important for me to reiterate the message of the rewards of adopting an adult dog: they are usually
trained, updated on their vaccinations, they have that unconditional love, and most likely, they are going to sleep through
the night! We always have a wonderful selection of adult dogs at the League, and even if you come to adopt a puppy, please
take a look at our adult dogs; and if anything, give them a little bit of love as you pass by.
The other important message of the evening was to keep spreading the word of not buying a pet from pet stores. The never-ending
cycle of puppy mills is just horrendous and SO WRONG. As long as we buy from pet stores, these helpless breeding dogs will
continue to live in terribly small cages without ever seeing the light of day or feeling the love of the human touch. They
are treated so horribly and never get a chance to live the life they so deserve. My friend, Jana Kohl, and her rescued puppy
mill survivor, Baby, sent an amazing video about the horror of puppy mills. Everyone in attendance was so touched by her video.
One of these days, I hope we can look back on puppy mills as a thing of the past. (Watch Video)
Happy Holidays to you, your families and pets. Be safe and stay warm. Cuddle your pet today!!!
xoxo beth O.
