maybe not completely but a lot and she did great doing the peiroit especially considering her
surgery...They didnt even show the whole 5 minute skits you guys had to do and since the outfits were
so 'right on the money' and professional... it was obvious that wasnt the same day I thought it wass so
sweet when you went and gave the guy in th doghouse food and stuff I can see how they are setting certain
people up to be the 'bad' guys and stuff itll be interesting to see next week Im sure you will probably even

"BETH JOY and BELLA STARLET from New York. Bella Starlet is a 10-year-old mixed breed (Chihuahua, Labrador Retriever,
Shih-Tzu, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever andPomeranian mix). Personally I can't figure out how this dog could be a mix

"Tonight is the night! Can you believe it? I wish I had US TV. I do have internet, but the connection is in and out...
London is going fine. It's been a bit gloomy and rather cold for July (60's)...sort of what you would picture. Big city,
some cool stuff. Feet are killing me from walking so much. It's 4pm here now...and 11AM where you are. That sounds fine, except
when going to bed or getting up. (Today woke at 7 and it was midnight in Chicago...ODD!)
Anyway, I wanted to say hi. Was hoping you were online!
Oh well, will try again!
Congrats on the Premiere tonight!!" K
'Greatest American Dog' Search Kicks Off Thursday
By MEGAN GLAROS,
CBS 2 HD News NEW YORK (CBS) ― For years,
the Westminster Kennell Club Show has been the best thing that dog lovers had to look forward to on TV. But all that
is changing Thursday night as a nationwide search pulled in a varied group of competitors together to duke it out for the
title of the Greatest American Dog. From show dogs to stray dogs, competition has never been more dog-eat-dog. They
will fight it out week-by-week, with one couple being eliminated each show. And just to add to the fun, they have to live
together – the owners, the pets, and all their drama! CBS 2 had a chance to meet one very hopeful contestant
and the dog she calls a diva, Bella Starlet, at their SoHo apartment which was decorated, of course, with Bella memorabilia.
That's just the beginning of Beth Joy's joy for her prized pet. "I have her tattooed on my leg," admits Joy.
Bella Starlet keeps in shape with yoga each morning. She gets her hair beaded and cut uptown, eats only organic frozen
yogurt and kobe beef. And in her own column, she writes all about how to be a fabulous dog in the city. "I'm her ghostwriter,"
says Joy. "We write for a city pet guide called 'Life of a CelebPup' and for 'New York Tails' called 'Tails About Town.'"
Bella Starlet and Joy will have some stiff competition from another New York couple: Upper East Side's Dr. David Best
and his dog Elvis, who he says changed his life. "I was a typical New Yorker. I had to go to the hottest Broadway
show, the new hot restaurant no matter where it was like most New Yorkers do," says Best. "Then this little 2-year-old in
a fur suit came into my life and now I'm just content to hang out with my buddy." The competition won't be a walk
in the park for any of these teams. "Each episode gets more challenging and more elaborate until that Greatest American
Dog is found," says Jarod Miller, the host of the new show. If you think you've got the Greatest American Dog, you
can submit a picture of your pooch for a slideshow and upcoming contest by clicking here.
"Hi Beth!!! I ve been so busy to email, but i wanted to drop a line to tell you how excited Tippy and I are that
you will be on TV today!!! I almost fell off my chair when i saw you and Bella on commerical on National Television!!!!
but then again we all know Bella is destined for starhood!!! Tippy and I are so proud of you guys and I told everyone
that Bella is Tippy's friend and goes to her parties!!! Enjoy your celebratityhood this evening!!!! "
Laura
"Hi Beth,
Countdown....so excited about tonight!!!"

"Beth Joy,
Congratulations on your first personal appearance debut on national television! It was a cute spot. The announcer
noticed Bella Starlet's outfit and was trying to comment on it. It was also kind of good that he called Bella Starlet
Stella by mistake and that you corrected him because now her name might stick with the audience more. Keep us posted
on any other appearances that you'll be doing, as well as any news articles you'll be featured in."

The debut of Greatest American Dog helped CBS take the viewership win for Thursday night with
8.22 million. For summer demo-starved CBS, that adults 18-49 2.1 rating / 8 share from Dog is a bonanza. My guess
is that it also boosted the CSI rerun’s usually dismal demo performance. I’m sure all fingers are crossed at CBS
to see how Dog holds up next week.
Dogs aside, Fox won the night in the adults 18-49 demo, where the money gets made, with a 2.5/8 on the strength of So
You Think You Can Dance and Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?.
NBC is likely pleased with the 2.1/6 in the demo garnered by Last Comic Standing from 9-11.
For them, that’s a solid summer performance.
At 10pm, Berman tosses Hopkins “accolades“, but a 1.6/5 in the demo isn’t going to have it back for a second run. No accolades for Swingtown,
but at a 1.8/5 in the demo and declining, it’s likely sitting next to Hopkins on the bus to
Cancelville.

N.Y. pups vie for 'Greatest American Dog'
Sunday, July 13th 2008, 4:00 AM
David Best says Elvis, a N.Y. dog, rarely gets all shook up. Click pic for more images from the
show.
Beth Joy Knutsen & Bella Starlet hope to win some fi-dough.
Reality TV has officially gone to the dogs - and a pair of local pups are facing off for leader of the pack.
In "Greatest American Dog," which airs Thursdays on CBS, the fur flies as 12 pets and their owners move in together to compete for $250,000. The canine contestants, ranging from
pageant pooches to home-trained hounds, compete in games each week that test their owners' training skill before the judges
send one team packing.
The contestants and their humans hail from all over the country, but the New York pups may have the edge.
"A New York dog really doesn't get distracted easily. He has seen it all and done it all, so he's tough," says Dr. David Best from Union Square, who's competing with his 2-year-old Parson Russell terrier, Elvis, for the prize.
"If you look at the other 11 dogs, he is the most handsome of them all. He's really the cover boy. He's got the personality,"
says Best, who recently threw his pup a $10,000 "bark mitzvah" with 100 guests, including Dr. Ruth.
In the show, the pooches must prove themselves as primo show dogs. Elvis not only sits, dances and jumps through hoops,
he's got a way with the ladies. "The interesting thing about this show is ... the dogs have their own soap opera going on,"
Best says, "and Elvis is right in the middle!"
But he's not the only local dog in the running. New Yorkers will recognize well-dressed doggy diva Bella Starlet, star of the first-ever dog float in the Village Halloween Parade.
"She's like Miss America," boasts Beth Joy Knutsen, 32, from Nolita, who works full time as Bella's stage mom/manager. "She's multifaceted: really talented, really intelligent,
and she gives back to her community."
Bella Starlet is a little lady with a long lineage. A mix of Chihuahua, Labrador retriever, Shih Tzu, Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever and Pomeranian, the well-manicured mutt was born ready for her closeup.
Abused as a pup and rescued in Brooklyn, Bella taught herself to "wave" for attention. Knutsen hired an agent and launched Bella's showbiz career, including the
indie film "CasaBella," which played in two film festivals.
"We're very competitive," warns Knutsen, who sports a 4-inch tattoo of her "soul mate" on her ankle. "We did a lot of practice,
really brushed up on what she knows. She understands commands in English and French."

Beth Joy, 32, and her 10 year-old mutt Bella Starlet are truly showbiz girls of New York City.
Beth Joy works as Bella’s acting manager, which she really does need since she has several gigs. She's appeared in commercials,
films, and still finds time to work for animal advocacy. Her 'Howl-O-Ween' float was the first ever dog float in New York's
Village Halloween Parade.

Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Thursday, July 10. At 8:00 PM, GREATEST AMERICAN DOG premiered with a

with FOX). GREATEST AMERICAN DOG will be rebroadcast on Saturday, July 12 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). *

Snap Judgment: CBS' 'Greatest American Dog'
I'm sure this show, which pits 12 pooches, pictured, against each other for the title of "Greatest American Dog,"
sounded like a good idea to someone, at some point. Kinda like EW's December 3, 1993 cover of Frasier's dog, Eddie. (It's true, y'all.) But somehow, it's even less fun than you'd expect.
The canine competitors and their owners live and train at the "Canine Academy." Each episode, they'll duke it out in a
Dog Bone Challenge to determine which pair gets to stay in puppy paradise, a private luxury suite. The winner also gets to
decide which pair will rough it in an outdoor dog house (slightly larger in size than a tent). The rest of the contestants
and their pets will share communal bedrooms, which producers clearly hope provides some drama. In the premiere, the challenge
was musical doggy chairs. When the music stopped, the owners had to get their dogs to jump up on a tiny platform and sit.
Why was I surprised that I was seeing this on a major network? Each episode, there will also be an elimination challenge in
which the dogs and owners perform in front of three judges -- including an editor-at-large of Dog World and Dog
Fancy.
This week, working in groups of four (or eight), the owners had to come up with a skit that would showcase their dogs'
basic skills (e.g. sit, play dead, pirouette, skateboard). Some rose to the challenge -- like film producer Laura and her
mohawk-rockin' Pomeranian, Preston, from Team Aloha, which did an Hawaiian theme. Others crumbled: Aspiring comic Michael
took it upon himself to emcee his team's doggy disco and overshadowed his Boston Terrier, Ezzie. Judge Victoria Stilwell,
host of It's Me or the Dog, noted that Ezzie was licking her lips, which is a stress signal, and also cowering in
Michael's sequined presence. She didn't look like she was having fun, Stilwell said. Michael choked back tears. The wind was
literally knocked out of him when he eventually got the boot. I was sorta sad to see Michael and Ezzie go, following their
"farewell lap" of the ring; she'd stolen English Bulldog Tillman's skateboard while he was rehearsing and Michael had pretended
to lift his leg on the furnishings in the Dog Bone Suite. They were promising.
After the jump, I pick the pooch who should've hit the road, and my early favorites (yes, I think the blogfather will make
me keep watching).
The other two pairings in the bottom three this week were Beth Joy and her professional actress/soul mate mix breed, Bella
Starlet, and Brandy and her Miniature Schnauzer, Beacon. Beth Joy lost control of Bella Starlet during their French-class
routine at Bark Wag High. Though judge Allan Reznick of Dog Fancy fame praised Bella's pirouettes, he wanted more
than one trick. Perhaps he heard that Bella Starlet is the "Pam Anderson of dogs" (and that she and Beth Joy have matching
swimsuits in their arsenal), because that mutt lived to bark another day. I was rooting for Brandy and Beacon to get gone.
Nothing against Beacon, who admittedly had a problem with the commands to wag one's tail and sit. I'm just over Brandy, who
Stilwell called out for "physically manipulating" her dog. She pushed Beacon's butt down to a sitting position -- a big no-no.
That was ironic since Brandy said earlier she is protective of Beacon and, "I won't tolerate other people touching my dog."
At least we'll have the chance for more awkward conversations between Brandy and Ron, Tillman's owner, who said he couldn't
remember whether that was the day he was jumping in front of a train or drinking bleach when Brandy invited him to her dog-friendly
wedding.
As for my early favorites, I'd say they are Preston and Tillman. (Tillman won me over when he refused to keep playing musical
chairs; Preston's owner, Laura, got me when she brought David and his beloved Parson Russell Terrier, Elvis, some blankets
in the Dog House.) I'm also fond of Leroy, the Border Collie who jumped over a gate to be the first one to hit the pool (it
IS a reality show!); Presley, the young Boxer with the hot owner, Travis; and Star, the Brittany who'd saved the life of her
older owner Bill's diabetic wife. Star needs a vet in next week's episode. I couldn't watch even if I wanted to!
Will you be tuning in next week? What are the odds that cocky J.D. and his English Border Collie, Galaxy, maintain residence
in the Dog Bone Suite?

Thursday, July 24, 2008 Greatest American Dog on CBS Current mood: nervous My NYC
friends - Beth Joy and Bella Starlet dog - are on tv tonight. Still. And we are chewing our nails to the quick. Here's the
show rundown...Big Brother goes Big Dog. It's a reality show which, as reporter Jenn McBride says, puts "contestants under
one woof, um, roof." 12 dog owners. 12 beloved dogs.
I love these two so much. I've known Beth for so many years, as neighbor and friend. She moved in below us, all wide-eyed
and full of raw talent. We were impressed immediately with her energy level and positivity. As we got to know her, we were
amazed at her innate ability to manifest amazing things, one of which was LOVE. First there was Bella, the mixed breed beauty,
she rescued from a shelter. Soon after, there came the sweet and funny man she would marry. He's a great bass player, by the
by, and can remodel like nobody's business. And Olive the stray cat who needed a chance to be save and loved. And Oscar the
puppy who swaggered on in. And Riff...
There's a lot of love in that apartment!

The judges weren't happy with Bella Starlet’s little outfit, saying it impeded their ability to judge her grooming.
"She's a dog, not a Barbie doll," commented one of them.
Beth Joy argued that Bella is a mix of five different dogs and "had her own look" plus this was a red carpet event,
so of course, she dressed up. Bella didn’t seem to buy this, nor did the judges.

King DOGust the First to Declare Universal Birthday for Shelter Canines
North Shore Animal League America Hosts Celebrity-studded Birthday Celebration on Newly Proclaimed
“DOGust the First”
July 28, 2008, Port Washington NY - Pet lovers at North Shore Animal League America acknowledge that the actual
birth dates of most rescue dogs are unknown. To give these wonderful animals their much deserved recognition and celebration,
they are are holding a first annual doggie birthday bash on August 1, 2008, to be known hereafter as DOGust the First. They
will be declaring the first day of the eighth month of 2008 as DOGust the First, a universal birthday for rescue dogs everywhere.
To glorify the occasion, a very special canine, “King DOGust the First”, will herald the celebration for all his
shelter dog friends, with the shelter’s cats as honored guests.
The DOGust the First birthday party, open to the public, starts at 11 AM at the shelter, 16 Lewyt St., Port
Washington, and will feature refreshments, games and goodie bags for all adopters. There will be a presentation of animal-related
topics by Animal League experts and a humane education program for children offered by Rescue Ink. The Animal League will
offer a 50% discount for all adopters beginning Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 3.
Beth Ostrosky, Animal League spokesperson, will host the event, with her own “best friend”
Bianca, helping King DOGust the First greet partygoers. Celebrity friends of the Animal League will join Beth, King DOGust
the First, and the shelter’s dogs to blow out the candles on a spectacular “bone” cake. The list includes:
- Mýa - Grammy award-winning recording artist and actress
- Rescue Ink - the Long Island-based animal rescue and humane
education group, known for their tough-guy images and hearts of gold when it comes to animals
- Josh Flitter – teen actor, star of the Nancy Drew
Movie and the upcoming Ace Ventura 3: Pet Detective;
- Vivien Cardone – teen actress, “A Beautiful
Mind”, the WB series Everwood, and starring soon-to-be released family film, All Roads Lead to Home
- Brandon Hannan – teen actor, The Sopranos and appearing
an upcoming feature film Our Lady of Victory with Ellen Burstyn;
- Hallie Kate Eisenberg – teen film, Broadway and commercial
actress;
- Eli the Chihuahua - pet celebrity, the 2007 Milkbone Dog Biscuit
box model
- Beth Joy Knutsen and Bella
Starlet Dog - competitors on the current CBS network show, Greatest American Dog.
While often times the age of animals is identifiable, their actual birth dates are not. ”A birthday celebration
is an opportunity to express our sentiments for one another. These wonderful animals are so full of life and love, and live
to please us,“ said Ms. Ostrosky, adding “Now we have a day set aside to honor them and return the unconditional
love and adoration they give us, day after day. These sweet animals crave our affection and company, so we can imagine the
warm feelings they will experience from all the extra attention on their special day, DOGust the First.”

– Bella Starlet is our only professional actress in the group. Beth Joy is her stage mom. Can anyone say "overboard?" And
the other owners are shocked by Beth Joy arrives with Bella Starlet, who is decked out in leg warmers and a puffy vest. Seriously,
I hope this woman stays on because I know she is going to make for good television! Beth Joy seems to
be the most excited about the challenge, of course. If you remember, her dog is the professional actress. If she doesn't nail
this, I hope she'll rethink the word professional. While all of the other owners were hustling together, Brandy,
Travis, Beth Joy and David were left alone, like outcasts. Who knows though? That could create the best team of all.

Greatest American Dog
July 9, 2008
Who wants a biscuit? Make that, who wants $250,000 dollars?
Greatest American Dog, debuting Thursday (July 10 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS), is the canine answer to the reality talent
competition craze, bringing twelve owner-dog teams together to compete in challenges to “put the owners’ ability
to train their dogs to the test.” Each week one team, determined by a panel of canine critics, will be eliminated until
the final team will take home the $250,000 prize and wear the title of the Greatest American Dog. Although it might be hard
to pick a favorite — they’re all so cute! — get to know four top dogs and their proud owners. –Pamela
Warrick and Madeleine Desmond
Beacon According to owner Brandy Yant of Irvine, Calif., her miniature schnauzer is “a tomboy
who dresses like a girl” and refuses to wear blue. Beacon’s favorite treat is to smell the flowers at the local
garden store. But this girly-girl doesn’t mind getting sweaty. “She’s really good at jumping hurdles,”
Yant brags. But no dog is perfect! “She was the first to poop in the house!” Brandy admits of her pooch, whose
middle name is Marie.
Bella Starlet Beth Joy Knutsen of New York City is a little more attached to her dog than most people.
Not only does she have a tattoo of her Chihuaha-lab mix, Bella Starlet, on her ankle, she tells PEOPLE, “Bella is my
soulmate.” And a star in the N.Y.C. pet community, says Knutsen, who is her publicist and manager. “In some ways,
she’s like Miss America. And when it comes to manners, she is so paw-lite.”
Galaxy Bella’s opposite might be Galaxy, a low-maintenance and athletic English pointer-Border collie
mix. Galaxy’s owner is J.D. Platt of Bend, Ore., who runs K9 Kings Entertainment, a traveling show with 11 performing
dogs. “As for dressing up dogs in frilly suits and pretty ribbons, there’s a time and a place for that and it’s
not here,” Platt says. “If it’s raining hard, she might get a Gortex coat. But this is a competition, not
a fashion show.”
Kenji If it looks like owner Elan Hagan of Portland, Ore., is fighting with her dog, she just might be.
Kenji, a 14-month-old giant schnauzer, is the biggest dog in the competition. She’s also a handful. “My dog is
as tall as I am but she’s still a puppy,” says Hagen. “Discipline is very important because these dogs are
bred to protect … I’m having to manhandle her more than the other [contestants].” But Kenji also gets rewarded
with trips to doggy day care and her favorite treat — cheese!
Cliff Lipson/CBS
"I’m rooting for you, Beth and Bella!!!!! Can’t wait to watch this show!!!!!? Click on this link
from People Magazine to see a short article on the top 4 dogs for the new show starting tonight on Channel 2 at 8PM. Bella
Starlet and Beth are our friends from NYC. (and yes, that first comment is from me!!) Carissa

This series turns out to be far less than the sum of its parts, with the human egos far surpassing the stupid
pet tricks in terms of relevance and screen time. And that’s wholly unfortunate.

Variety Staff (Not Credited)
This series could still do some reasonable ratings by summer standards, though those viewers that do sit
will have very little reason to stay; still, the shame is that the producers took what could have been an amusing lark and
initially sucked most of the life out of it by following the same-old unscripted-competition script so closely.
"The last group were those who were left being Travis/Presley, Brandy/Beacon, Beth Joy/Bella
Starlet and David/Elvis. Their theme was high school days after having trouble making up a theme. Although they knew nobody
else wanted them they decided to think of an amazing theme and hoped for the best."
"Beth Joy and actress Bella Star, a cute little mixed-breed
who also wears outfits (ugh) and is the "Pamela Anderson of dogs," according to Beth Joy. Way to aim for the stars, Beth Joy.
Way to aim for the stars. Oh, and according to the website, Beth Joy is a former Elaine (from Seinfeld) impersonator. And
has a tattoo of her dog. So...yeah. That's actually too much for me to even make a cohesive joke. Team Bark Wag High, consisting
of the leftover misfits from the other two teams, has a high school-themed routine. Brandy pretty much fails at everything
with Beacon, and the judges especially hate how she pushes Beacon down when she wouldn't sit on her own. Beth Joy has Bella
Starlet dance, which is kind of cute, though Beth Joy is really the star of the routine. The judges wanted a more varied performance.
David has Elvis kind of roll over and sit, which seemed dull to me, but the judges like how Elvis responded to David. Finally,
Travis has a funny routine with Presley where he frisks him and has him play dead, and the judges like their performance.
The judges name Brandy/Beacon, Beth Joy/Bella Starlet, and Michael/Ezzie as the weakest, and I pray to god that one of the
outfit-wearing dogs will be eliminated. Sadly, god apparently digs dogs in tutus, and my prayers go unanswered."
"
Home Coming at Bark and Wag High – Travis and Presley, Brandy and Beacon, Beth Joy and Bella Starlet, David
and Elvis.
"I thought the coolest theme was the “Home coming at Bark and Wag High”. All of the owners and pets
were dressed up in a high school theme and included a cheer where the dogs had to bark and wag their tails.
The bottom three owners/dogs based on the judge’s scores were:
- Brandy and Beacon
- Beth Joy and Bella Starlet
- Michael and Ezzie "
Greatest American Dog The Premiere Was A Winner
In the premier episode of Greatest American Dog, we got to meet the cast and see where they will be living for the
next several weeks. Each week the dogs and their owners will go through an obedience challenge and an elimination challenge
to determine who will be the Greatest American Dog!
Let’s meet the cast:
Ron and Tillman, an English Bull Dog who loves
to skateboard Travis and Presley, a Boxer loves to play Laura and Preston, a Pomeranian
that can strike a pose Michael and Ezzie, a Boston Terrier who enjoys watching television David
and Elvis, a Parson Russell Terrier that enjoys long walks through Central Park Elan and Kenji,
a Giant Schnauzer known to stop traffic and draw crowds Laurie and Andrew, a Maltese who loves his squeaky
ball JD and Galaxy, a Pointer/Collie mix does a fantastic back balance Beth Joy and Belle Starlet,
Mutt (Chihuahua/Pomeranian/Retreiver) is Bi-Lingual Brandy and Beacon, a Miniature Schnauzer loves her
stuffed animal that looks like her Teresa and Leroy, a Border Collie who has done a couple commercials Bill
and Star, a Brittany that is trained in field trials
Up first is the Dog Bone Challenge where they will determine the person that will get the stay in the lavish Golden
Bone Suite. This suite is all decked out in doggie friendly “grass” like carpet and treats galore to give the
winning dog a taste of the good life. The task this week is a doggie musical chairs where the owners are required to walk
their dogs around several boxes while the music plays, when the music stops, they need to have their canine companion sit
and stay.
First out is Brandy/Beacon, round 2 lost David/Elvis, round 3 Beth Joy/Bella Starlet weren’t quick
enough and seemed more interested in running around. Starting at round 4, they were out 2 teams at a time beginning with Ron/Tillman
and Travis/Presley followed by Elan/Kenji and Laura/Preston in round 5. In round 6 we lost Bill/Star and Laurie/Andrew and
taking us to the finals in round 7 we lost Teresa/Leroy. The finals were Michael/Ezzie and JD/Galaxy in a tight race but Micheal
just couldn’t seem to make Ezzie get up and stay.
Host Jarod Miller presented the golden bone key (it is actually
a gold key shaped like a bone) to Michael and was told that along with winning this challenge, he needed to nominate someone
to stay in the Dog House, a not so lush house with a sleeping bag and doggie bed out on the grounds of Canine Academy away
from the rest of the competitors. Micheal strategized that the Jack Russell might have an advantage so he sent David and Elvis
out to the dog house while the remaining competitors went to the main house and checked out the Golden Bone Suite. The competitors
and their dogs went back out and brought food and a mattress to David because they said they were all dog people and wanted
to make him as comfortable as possible. Awwwww!
This week’s elimination challenge is a talent show to test each
dogs basic skills. The talent show consisted of three groups of 4 dogs each with a theme. Although they competed in groups,
each competitor and their dog were based on their individual interaction and basic skills.
Team Aloha was up first
and cleaned up the beach with Theresa and Leroy, Star and Bill turned around and went backwards. Laura and Preston spoke and
pushed a ball, did high 5’s and lastly and Galaxy did through the legs and jumped on JD’s back then all dogs jumped
through hula hoops.
Up next was “Team Wag High”. This group consisted of Brandy & Beacon, Beth Joy
& Belle Starlet, David & Elvis and Travis & Presley but seemed to be the ones that nobody else wanted . The group
started out with a cheer (B-A-R-K Bark Wag High) and had the dogs bark, then wag their tails, then stand on their back legs.
Then each did their individual talent, the stand out in this group being David and Elvis with their stop, drop and roll routine.
Last group of Ron & Tillman, Elan & Kenji, Laurie & Andrew and finally Michael & Ezzie decided to
go with a 70’s theme of Disco Doggie. Decked out in afros and the oh so stylish polyester pants, the team danced their
way (literally with Elan and Kenji) through their routines with an exciting finish of Tillman riding his skateboard.
Final 3: Brandy/Beacon, Micheal/Ezzie, and Beth Joy and Belle Starlet
And the pair expelled from Canine Academy
<dramatic drumroll> Micheal and Ezzie. Sadly taking his fairwell lap around the stag with tears streaming,
speaking of the bond he has with his dog. Ezzie really didn’t look very sad though.
For the first episode it
wasn’t a bad show and I’m excited to see what kind of talent these doggies have that we haven’t been able
to see so far. My front runners would have to be JD and Galaxy or Bill and Star. I’ll be excited to see who will make
it the next step towards winning the $250, 000.00 prize and the title of Greatest American Dog."
"It's a good feeling to see dogs coming back to TV when it always makes for good, family entertainment. But seeing them in a new competitive reality show might be a little too hard to take, especially when dogs probably wouldn't have anything to do with reality shows if they had their way and could talk. I'd hate (or maybe secretly love) to hear what the dogs would say to their owners for subjecting them to an anthropomorphic version of "American Idol." Now CBS is assuming that people will want to see dogs competing in a similar format, though thankfully not attempting to sing the hits of the 70's. In "Greatest American Dog" (yes, I almost wrote "Hero" by accident), dogs will be competing in a Best in Show type of format. And it's downright fascinating that the dogs competing on the show are starting to look as human as their human counterparts.
What's even more fascinating
is that this reality show truly will resemble an anthropomorphic version of "American Idol", with similarities in some of the structure and
inside maneuvers usually kept from the public. Yes, in an alternate universe, we'd probably see "Idol" contestants with the
names of Galaxy, Elvis, or Bella Starlet. Instead, these are a mere three of the dog names you'll see on "Greatest American Dog" where the owners of these canines dress up their respective dogs in human clothing. If you've seen promotions showing the pictures of the dogs, they seem capable of as much Blue Steel as any human contestant on "Idol" during promotional photoshoots--along
with similar backgrounds. "

PREMIERE OF "GREATEST AMERICAN DOG" CHEWS THROUGH COMPETITION AMONG CANINES 1.79-7 YEARS OLD (18-49 IN
DOG YEARS)
KoKo, a two-and-a-half-year old Shiba Inu belonging to CBS Photo Vice President Francis Cavanaugh, was
among the many canines tuning into last night’s GREATEST AMERICAN DOG broadcast. CBS Research
Estimates It’s the Most Watched Telecast by Dogs Since "Lassie" In 1974 "Greatest American Dog" Marks Its
Territory Over ABC's "Ugly Betty" in Key Upscale Purebreds
The premiere of CBS's GREATEST AMERICAN DOG, a reality series that pits 12 teams of dogs and owners in a competition that
tests owners' skills in handling dogs, won its time period among dogs 1.79-7 years old (18-49 in dog years) and delivered
the highest prime time audience among canines since Lassie in 1974, according to the CBS data that hasn't been chewed apart
or eaten. Airing against ABC's catfight comedy "Ugly Betty," GREATEST AMERICAN DOG premiered in first place in
dog-patrolled households, canine viewers, upscale purebreds, "Heinz 57" (mutt) adults and the advertiser coveted 1.79-7 years
olds. GREATEST AMERICAN DOG captured cross-breed success, with particularly strength among golden retrievers,
beagles, terriers, female poodles ages 3.6-7.7 years old (25-54 in dog years) and the elusive young, male pit bull audience.
In contrast, time period competitor "Ugly Betty" captured Siamese cats and tiara-wearing Chihuahuas in the same timeslot.
Against NBC's "Last Comic Standing," GREATEST AMERICAN DOG won the entire mammal viewing audience, including dogs, cats, ferrets,
skunks and rodents. GREATEST AMERICAN DOG also dominated the upscale canine audience, placing first with English
bulldogs, Akitas, Cavalier King Charles spaniels and Norfolk Terriers Impressively, GREATEST AMERICAN DOG improved
on last year's "Ultimate Frisbee Competition" by +71%. "Our testing audience with schnauzers in Vegas suggested
a high opening number, but this exceeds our wildest expectation," said CBS Research Chief David Poltrack when he saw the preliminary
numbers. Poltrack said the number should go even higher in Live Plus 7, factoring in dogs who know how to use
their paws to program their DVRs. Viewers who missed last night's GREATEST AMERICAN DOG premiere can circle the
computer three times, sit down and watch the full episode on cbs.com and across the CBS Audience Network. GREATEST
AMERICAN DOG was also quite popular among humans. The show premiered with a time period win in households (6.1/12),
viewers (9.46m), adults 25-54 (2.7/09) and adults 18-49 (2.1/08).
Updated Thursday ratings will be available this afternoon. Data on endangered species viewing has been postponed. *

Back at Canine Academy, jealousy jeopardizes the relationship
between two of the owners, at the Dog Bone Competition, some owners are shocked to find out they don't know their dogs as
well as they think they do and, while taking a dip in the pool, Tillman displays his very special technique of water conservation.
For the Best In Show Competition, each dog/owner team spends time with a photographer to come up with a shot to impress

Jonathan Storm: TV critics show 'Mad Men' love
By Jonathan Storm
Inquirer Television Critic
The Inquirer's Jonathan Storm is reporting this week from the television critics press tour in
Beverly Hills. These items originally appeared in his blog, "From the Source," at www.philly.com/philly/blogs/from_the_source.
'Mad Men' cleans up. AMC's Mad Men, which returns for its second season next Sunday, won three of the 11
Television Association Critics Awards Saturday night. Stars Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss got so excited, they were smoking
real cigarettes at the after-party.
The show, set in the '60s, features extensive retro dress and behavior, including billows and billows of smoke from herbal
cigarettes. But a lot of the actors puff the real ones when the cameras stop.
The critics named Mad Men - top drama in the Emmy race with 16 nominations - as outstanding new program, outstanding
drama, and program of the year.
HBO's John Adams took down two TCA awards, for outstanding achievement in movies, miniseries and specials, and individual
achievement in acting, for star Paul Giamatti.
NBC's 30 Rock matched that performance. It was named best comedy, and star and chief cook and bottle washer Tina
Fey got the best comic-acting award.
"It's a great time to be in broadcast television, isn't it?" she enthused. "It's like being in vaudeville in the '60s."
Later, when accepting the best-comedy show award, she apologized: "The rest of the cast could not be here tonight because
NBC is broke."
Two PBS programs got prizes: The War, for news and information, and WordGirl, for best children's program.
Saturday Night Live impresario Lorne Michaels won the career achievement award, and HBO's The Wire received
the Heritage Award, which is given to a program that ran at least five seasons and "whose content has had a positive impact
on TV, society and popular culture."
John Adams executive producer Tom Hanks showed up to accept the show's award, which gave everybody a thrill.
Mad Men's Hamm underscored the current celestial vs. swampy duality of TV when he accepted the drama prize. He thanked
Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?
"for pushing the envelope so far that way, that there was a place . . . where we could sneak in."
Going to the dogs. Who wants to hang out with puffed-up actors and moneybags producers at the big Hollywood party
when there are cool dogs in the house?
Several contestants from CBS's
awwwww-inspiring Greatest American Dogs showed up with their humans this weekend at the big star party thrown by the network at L.A.'s
latest trend-central club, Boulevard3.
From Rancho Santa Margarita, down in Orange County, there was little Beacon, the miniature schnauzer, with his momma, Brandy
Yant.
And Bella Starlet Dog, who flew all the way out from New York City with her buddy,
Beth Joy Knutsen. Bella has her own business card ("Professional Dog Actress Extraordinaire"). She's a Chihuahua, Labrador,
Pomeranian, shih tzu mix, with a little Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever thrown in, said Knutsen, who traced her ancestry
via DNA.
Also there was Tillman the English bulldog, who is equally at home on skateboards and snowboards, said his daddy, Ron Davis
of Oxnard, Calif.
"Tillman may be chunky, but he loves to go fast," said Davis.
