Bow Wow Wow and Ooh La La
By Annamaria DiGiorgio

Move over, bunnies. Dogs took center stage on July 19 in Los Angeles at the famous Playboy Mansion, which hosted the 2nd annual Bow Wow Wow celebrity fundraiser. Put on by Much Love Animal Rescue, the event raised more than $200,000 to aid adoptions of homeless dogs.

In attendance were celebrities galore, including Tori Spelling, Jerry O'Connell, Kevin Nealon and Denise Richards, who scored a Mollie Carrier by Lucy's Luxuries with her winning bid at the event's silent auction. Prizes up for grabs to the highest bidder featured everything from gourmet dog treats to walk-on roles in major TV shows.

Celebs walked the red carpet, which was sponsored by Dog.com, posing for pictures with Much Love's adoptable dogs.
Inside the event, guests mingled over cocktails and hors d'oeurves around the mansion's pool and infamous Grotto, with the private zoo available nearby for further exploration
Hey BeJoy
I got the package !!! : ) thank you so much!  I love the bag (now i will feel like i was actually there) and the magazine and especially the key chain flashlight (I kinda have a thing for them haha)
I'm sorry I can't call my throat hurts sooo much !!!
Anyways thanks again : )!

Hi Beth Joy!!!  I love you!!  You were so sweet to us. Thanks for letting me kiss on Bella Starlett! She is beautiful! Jude

Beth is ecstatic...the pilot recognizes Bella Starlet and runs back onto the plane to get his phone to take her picture...loves it!!:)

I loved watching that show!!!!  GAD.  When you left I was pulling for the little Andrew boy!!  I am just partial to the smaller dogs.  I was hooked on Bella though because she reminds me of my sassy.  Although sassy is a dark Brindle they have similar faces.  Sassy is a shih-tzus yorkie mix.  i just though Bella did a phenominal job on the show.  I felt so sorry for Bob??  The orange dog owner when she didn't fly.  He was so excited that he and his dog would fly together and I was pulling for her but I can understand why she didn't.  Sometimes those judges where really tough werent they!!

Are they going to have another show like this??  Also the links at the bottom of your email do you own those sites?
Melinda

We have signed your guest book awhile back, so we are huge fans!

With all of Bella's personal appearances, I know she always looks her best - we just want her to have something special from us to wear.

Also, if you would please enclose an address as to where we can have the dress sent to, we would really appreciate it! When we send the dress, I will also enclose a picture of Chloe.

Thank you for your time, Beth Joy and Bella Starlet - have a super day!

Get your pet set for Halloween

Saturday, October 25th 2008, 4:00 AM

Even these hard times can't keep the city's pooches from having a howlin' good Halloween.

"Humor is always the best medicine, even in the worst of times," said Karen Ngo, a Brooklyn-based photographer, whose charming new book "Indognito" (Little, Brown and Company, $19.99) celebrates canines in drag.

"People can't help but grin when they see a dog in a costume," she said.

Among the whimsical canine portraits gracing the pages include a Chihuahua matador, Doberman rabbit and Ngo's own dogs Emma and Martini as a winking genie and an angel.

Also featured are four adorable Chihuahuas in "The Wizard of Oz" garb. Owner Ada Nieves, the city's diva of pet couture, hand-stitches their costumes for celebrations year-round (adanieves.com).

This week, "Team Chihuahua" will make its rounds to the city's bevy of pooch parades and masquerade balls for tricks and treats as bees, and ladybugs and flowers, Nieves said.

Her latest creations, Miss Alaska 2008 - a bikini-clad maverick with a six pack - and Chi-Obama, will also vie for top dog.

"It's a special day to have fun with your friends and dogs," she said.

Animal experts warn to keep in mind that not every animal fares well in costume. If so, make sure it's a good fit. Also keep pets away from chocolate, candy wrappers, large crowds and fireworks.

Here is a partial listing of Halloween fetes around the five boroughs. Many of the events will help raise money for needy animals. Check the Web sites for rain dates.

If you're uptown, don't miss the Doggie Halloween Party at the 72nd St. Dog Run in Riverside Park today, from noon to 3p.m. (www.rspfloral.org).

On Staten Island, the Wolfes Pond Park seventh annual Pooch Parade, at Cornelia, Holton and Luten Aves., will be from noon to 3 p.m. today.

Tomorrow, from noon to 4 p.m., creativity will be on display at the city's outlandish 18th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade in the East Village. This year, hundreds of dogs in duds will be competing for more than $5,000 in prizes for Best in Show, Best Owner & Dog Costume and Best Trick.

Admission is $5 (www.firstrunfriends.org).

Van Cortlandt Park Howl-O-Ween festivities will take place tomorrow at Canine Court, Broadway and 252nd St., in the Bronx from noon to 2p.m.(www.nycgov-parks.org).

On Monday, Animal Fair magazine will host its eighth annual Halloween Pet Costume Party benefiting the Humane Society of New York. Editor and America's Greatest Dog judge Wendy Diamond and other celebrities will crown one lucky pooch as Most Petacular Halloween Costume. The fun begins at 7 p.m. at Mansion, 530 W. 28th St. (www.animalfair.com).

On Thursday, at 7 p.m., Bobbi and the Strays will hold its annual Halloween fund-raiser at Russo's on the Bay in Howard Beach. This year, the money raised will go toward securing a new shelter.

Call (917) 213-9840 or http://bobbicares.petfinder.org.

This Friday, the Animals Love NYC float celebrating the city's needy and rescued animals will mark its third year at the 35th NYC Village Halloween Parade. This year's float theme is "Totally Pawsome 80s," created by Beth Joy Knutsen and Bella Starlet Dog. For info visit bellastarletdog.com

Next Sunday, Sean Casey Animal Rescue will host its first Howlloween Block Bark Party, with food, raffles, pet costumes and adoptable animals, at The Hamilton Dog House at 155 E. Third St., Brooklyn, from noon to 5 p.m. www.scarnyc.org.

In addition, she is a freelance writer, animal publicist and animal event planner. Beth Joy is a former Elaine (character from “Seinfeld”) impersonator.

Beth Joy describes herself as eclectic, witty and charismatically creative. She and Bella Starlet enjoy bike riding, swimming and running on the cranberry bogs of Cape Cod. They continue to participate every year to promote animal advocacy and adoption. Beth Joy hosts yearly “Barkday Pawties” for Bella Starlet themed “Celebrate the Starlet” for Bella Starlet’s birthdays where all guests receive her real PAWtograph in a silver charm. Beth Joy’s motto is “Age is just a number, bliss equals youth.” and “No rain, no rainbows!”

Bella Starlet is definitely a city dog who is often dressed in costume (she has customized outfits, including her Marilyn Monroe dress and Statue of Liberty costume). Bella Starlet Dog / New York Tails / West Village Vets / Street Treats: NYC Village Halloween Parade Float 2008

Friday, October 31, 2008

5:30–10:00 p.m.

NYC - The Village, Spring Street and 6th Avenue, Manhattan

Mayor's Alliance Participating Organizations, volunteers, and their friends are invited to escort the Animal Halloween Float in the Village Halloween Parade. Again this year, the Maddie's Fund mascot will ride atop the float and supporters are invited to walk alongside the float. Wear your organization's t-shirt and a mask, or come in full costume. Carry your organization's banner, and celebrate NYC's homeless and rescued animals! We'll have a prime spot near the front of the parade as we did last year. Arrive as early as 5:30 p.m. and enjoy the pre-parade festivities (and avoid some of the crowds that make a later arrival more challenging). The parade gets underway at 7:00 p.m. Look for the Animal Float, whose theme this year is "Totally Pawsome 80s," created once again by Beth Joy Knutsen and Bella Starlet Dog — that's where all the animal people will meet up.

For more information, visit the New York's Village Halloween Parade web site or Bella Starlet Dog web site.

Good Evening Beth Joy and Bella Starlet!

I was just on Bella's website to see if there were any new pictures from your Halloween parade last night. Bella's costume  - really - I had to chuckle at the Jem outfit! Bella looked so cute with pink hair! I remember my niece LOVED watching Jem every week!

Also, just wanted to let you know how tickled I was to have found that you had the notes Chloe and I wrote to you all on your website - plus Chloe's picture with the link to Dogster! It explains why she has gotten so many hits lately! That was sweet of you to include us! Thank you!

But most of all, I want to thank you for putting a link to my friend, Melinda's new website for her dog clothing business! That means a lot to me - thank you very much for your generous act.

I also enjoyed finding out info on your sweet little Riff! What a cutie! And Amber, your kitty  - I am so impressed with everything you do with your pets - giving back to others the way you do.

My husband, Bob and I were talking about making a small donation to one of your favourite pet charities. Please let us know which one has the greatest need.

Take care - enjoy the rest of your weekend and give all your fluffies a hug from your fans here in Huntersville!

Warm regards,

Halloween Parade Spooks Manhattan

By: NY1 News

Halloween means tricks and treats for many, as well as the return of the Village Halloween Parade.

The 35th annual celebration began at 7 p.m., and thousands walked up Sixth Avenue from Spring Street to 21st Street to show off their frightening or funny costumes.

The warm October weather helped bring out an estimated 60,000 costumed participants and an estimated 1.8 million spectators, according to parade marshals.

The parade's theme was "Ghosts," recalling the ancient tradition that wearing costumes would help appease spirits.

However, the country's economic woes could not be appeased and took a toll on the Halloween parade.

The annual Village Halloween Parade's artistic director, Jeanne Fleming, said seven of the parade's major sponsors have pulled out, cutting the parade's budget in half.

Some of the cost-cutting measures included cutting special lighting that brightens the parade route and having staffers work for free. Fleming said such moves did not stop the carnival-like atmosphere.

"It's the spirit of New York that is just never going to be suppressed. It's always going to rise up," said Fleming.

Nevertheless, parade-goers came out to show off their quirky, often homemade takes on the supernatural, pop culture and politics.

Among the marchers were elaborate floats, marching bands and a group of tens of people dressed as zombies and dancing in unison to Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Politically-themed costumes were common, and included the two presidential candidates, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and even a voting booth.

Other more complex costumes included an oven, a photo booth and Brooklyn's Cyclone rollercoaster.

Onlookers enjoyed the parade's intense, creative spirit.

"This is my first year at the parade ever. I don't dress up, but I'm here and I'm having the greatest time and I'm ready to go," said a parade attendee.

One man was even dressed as NY1's morning anchor Pat Kiernan, seated at a portable desk for an "In The Papers" segment.

"I watch Pat every morning, love it, couldn't be anybody better," said the local news fan.

Many costumed marchers said they took days and even weeks to put together their costumes, and some have probably started to plan out next year's costumes.

daisy the peacockNew Subscribers -- Thank You! You're Already Making A Difference!
Thanks to all of you who heeded the call for our Subscription Drive. You've already helped us raise $200.00 for local adoption and rescue groups! (Pictured here is us [far right, cat] giving your first donation to the Mayor's Alliance and their mascot, Maddie, and Alliance representative Steve Gruber as a Halloween Treat!)

Remember, subscription only is the only way you will be able to get a guaranteed copy of New York Tails four times a year, although we will continue to donate a limited number of copies to special events, vets and shelters.) Join us -- our dream is to help give a combined gift of $1000.00 to the needy pets of New York by the holidays. You've already given $200.00 total, so a $1000.00 donation means only 160 more subscriptions to go. Our local shelters are really going to need our help this year. Will you help? Just in time for the holidays, we have cute gift certificates available for your family and friends!

Thanks! I'm an avid dog lover like you! Well all animals for that matter, but Dogs #1. Your dog Bella is so cute! But the true beauty about dogs are their personalities; my bulldog sarah rushes towards at full speed when you come home and then picks up her paw and scratches your leg until you pet her.
Bella looks like she's on the red carpet!
