11.02.06 Wow....It is PAWSitively amazing!
We want to thank the parade staff, our friends,
and our families for believing in us from the beginning of our "secret project" (the float) a year ago. Thank you to
all of the parade revelers and press for your congratulatory e-mails and phone calls that have made us feel so good,
and when we saw the float for the first time in all its glory on Tuesday night, I started crying tears of joy:) Bella &
I are so happy to be innovators and we will continue to carry on this tradition. We hope that many animals will
be adopted from the rescue groups that walked with us.
November 3, 2006 - Maddie Graces NYC Halloween Float
KISS was Grand Marshall of the Village Halloween Parade in Manhattan, but right in front was a float celebrating
the people and pets of New York and featuring Maddie. The float was sponsored by New York Tails Magazine, BellaStarletDog, and Street Treats. Writes Tails Publisher, Diane West, "It was particularly exciting
to see everyone yell when Maddie waved --Maddie has become quite the local celebrity from being at all the Mayor's Alliance
adoption events!"
A Bella Starlet Dog Fun

DogCatemy Awards Gala Shines Spotlight on a Good Cause
You don’t often get the chance to bring your dog along to a black tie optional event, but North Shore Animal League
America’s DogCatemy Awards was a fun new twist on the typical fundraising gala.
Friends, supporters and “well behaved dogs” were all invited to take part in the special event at Capitale
in New York City on November 29th. A crowd of nearly 300 gathered to view unscripted, short movies in which celebrities gave
viewers a funny and touching look into their personal lives with their most trusted friends. Master of Ceremonies, actress
and comedian Nora Dunn, entertained guests throughout the evening and singer Kelly Sweet provided live entertainment.
The awards presentation included Best Dogumentary, Best Ensemble Pack, Best Pawformance, Best Tail Waggin’ Comedy,
and Best in Show. Click here to see all the videos and cast your own vote!
All proceeds from this event support North Shore Animal League America's mission of rescuing pets throughout the world
and placing them in loving homes.
Celebrities submit short films of themselves and their pets.
Fans got a glimpse of the personal sides of some of their favorite animal-loving stars at the North Shore Animal League America’s
annual DogCatemy Awards Gala, held in New York City this week.
Celebrities, including master of ceremony Nora Dunn of “Saturday Night Live,” NBC News anchor Brian Williams,
and supermodel Kim Alexis, screened unscripted short movies of themselves and their pets. Awards went to Best Dogumentary,
Best Ensemble Pack, Best Pawformance, Best Tail Waggin’ Comedy, and Best in Show.
The following celebrities contributed films: Beth Ostrosky, with her Bulldog, Bianca; Brian Williams, with his 13-year-old
League rescue dog, Lucy; Lisa Gastineau, with her daughter’s Chihuahuas; Jai Rodriguez, with his pampered dog; and Hallie
Kate Eisenberg, with her rescue dogs and cats.
It was a red carpet event like no other: The Dogcatemy Awards, a North Shore Animal League benefit
celebrating short films about celebrity pets. In attendance North Shore Animal League spokesperson Beth Ostrosky, The King
of All Media Howard Stern, and their beautiful bulldog Bianca. A common belief when it comes to pets and their owners: that
they look alike. Beth O. said she’d "be honored if someone told me I looked like my dog because she’s the most
beautiful thing in the world next to my boyfriend."
But Master of Ceremonies and former Saturday Night Live star Nora
Dunn disagreed when it came to Howard’s look. When asked by Howard 100 News what type of dog Howard looked like, her
reply: "A mutt, a stray... sometimes a dirty dog."
But back to Bianca, perhaps the most powerful pet of the evening.
It was obvious her owners, Howard and Beth, love her very much as Howard said. "That’s our child." Howard said. And
Beth elaborated: "I can't imagine loving a child any more than this animal." That loved showed through in Beth’s film
about Bianca, which took home the Best in Show award.

North Shore Animal League America's Fundraising Gala
I had a fantastic time as a volunteer photographer for North Shore Animal League America (NSALA) at their 1st Annual Dogcatemy Awards Gala in Manhattan, Wed. Nov. 29 at the Capitale ballroom on Bowery. Plenty of
generous celebrities turned out to help raise funds for animals in need of rescue at the shelters, including Nora Dunn of
Saturday Night Live fame, who was the event's host.
NSALA spokesperson Beth Ostrosky was there with her date Howard
Stern, the pair showing their support for the rescue and adoption efforts.
The event featured a fine dinner, and a treasure-trove of
donations to the silent auction tables (I dontated a portrait sitting as well - special thanks to the winning bidder!), as
well as a variety of celebrity-made home movies featuring the stars and their pets. Dogcatemy Awards were presented in grand
fashion to the winners, of course.
Steven R. Schirripa from the Soprano's cast attended in support
with his daschunds, and gave the crowd more than a few chuckles with his presentations and film contribution. I was wholly
impressed by the charm and generiosity of all of the attendees, and the event in general. . .I hope the NSALA folks are happy
with the way everything turned out, as they threw quite a party.
Kelly Sweet graced the event as well, singing several songs for us as dinner service beagn. With songs sung in English, Italian, French,
and Sanskrit, and melodies that partake of both jazz and classical influences, WE ARE ONE, her new album, is very impressive
- as was her performance at the Gala. . .loved it.
To see all of the photos I made at the gala, feel free to
go to my website's home page, and select the "PETS" section on the right by clicking on the photograph of the smiling corgi.
When the page loads, select "CLIENT PROOFS" at the top, and enter the password "gala" in the gray box where prompted.
