The Reformation was a time of great change in Christianity where many different groups began to protest different aspects of the Catholic Church and broke away to form their own denomination of Christianity.  These groups eventually became known as Protestants.  Without the printing press shown here, the Reformation might not have been possible because for the first time, written information were able to be copied and distributed on a mass basis, therefore allowing for the quick spread of thoughts and ideas.  Eventually, the Catholic Church attempted to counter the mass exodus of people from their denomination by altering their practices and reaffirming their beliefs and this was known as the Catholic Counter-Reformation.
