SPECIAL
NOTICE
Due to circumstances, we
are unable to take in Cockatiels or Budgerigars ("Parakeets") as of January 1, 2008. As our resources and funding are severely
strained, and the fact that there is a lack of interest in adopting Cockatiels and Budgies, we cannot foster these birds until
the Spring or Summer of 2008. We will, however, list any Cockatiels or Budgies you may have for adoption on our Petfinder.com
site as a courtesy listing. Please contact us for details.
We will continue to foster
for adoption all other species of parrots.
Mission
To provide safe harboring of avian species in the Order Psittaciformes, Families Cacatuidae,
Loriidae, and Psittacidae; to maintain a foster home for unwanted, sick, or otherwise displaced or homeless birds of those
species and operate an adoption service; to educate the public about the proper care, maintenance, natural origins and habitat,
and scientific nomenclature and classification of those species. To provide a parrot adoption service to qualified adoptees.
Profile
Maspeth Bird Haven, Inc. was founded in December, 2004, and is a registered New York State
Not-for-Profit Corporation, with IRS 501(c)(3) status.
We are aviculturists at heart, and will foster parrots in a
friendly, clean, and stimulating environment. We are extremely dedicated towards this endeavor.
Information
Please read the "Our Policies" page.
If you wish to place a bird with us for care, please send us an e-mail with your name and address
and we will send you a Bird Acquisition Agreement, or send us a seld-addressed and stamped #10 envelope to our address below.
If we are unable to foster a bird due to space limitations at our Haven, we will notify you immediately.
Please note
that all birds coming into our care must be seen by a veterinarian within the past calendar year.
You must plan on visiting with the parrot you wish to adopt at least twice during the adoption process. An individual cannot
"walk-in" expecting to leave with a parrot. Our rules and standards are strict.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL NOT RESPOND TO E-MAILS WITHOUT YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, AND A RETURN TELEPHONE
NUMBER. AS WE TAKE THE CARE AND ADOPTION OF PARROTS SERIOUSLY, SO MUST BE YOUR INTENT ON ADOPTING A PARROT. Please read the
"Our Policies" page right away.
We do not foster canaries, finches,
or birds in other Orders, however, do not despair. Contact us with your needs and we will find a home for your birds. We do not have the facilities for wild birds, however, we can direct you to a qualified licensed
NYSDEC Wildlife Rehabilitator.
Our Vice-President/Secretary does hold a NYSDEC Wildlife Rehabilitator Class I
license, and can assist other NYSDEC licensed individuals in an emergency situation.

What We Provide
*A safe, clean, and happy environment
for fostered avian friends.
*Lots of toys and the
best of healthy foods for avian friends awaiting placement.
*Sharing
knowledge and experience with other rescue organizations, avian biologists and experts, and quick access to a local avian
veterinarian and two emergency veterinarian hospitals.
*We
will ONLY place the bird given up for adoption with a qualified new guardian. We will NEVER place a bird with
an unexperienced guardian.
*Maspeth
Bird Haven, Inc. encourages you to try to adopt birds...there are plenty of birds available for adoption in the Tri-State
area, with about six active parrot rescue/adoption organizations, including ours. If you cannot find the bird of choice
right away, be patient. In the meanwhile, LEARN all that you can about the species of choice
BEFORE you adopt. When it comes time, make that feathered friend a PERMANENT, INTEGRAL part of your home forever!
