Welcome to Neal Reed's Pottery
I have been making pots / working in clay since 1995. From 1995 to 2000 I worked
as an assistant for Phil & Trista Chapman. I then began teaching pottery for Dan Finnegan, first at the Back
Door Pottery and then at LIbertyTown Arts Workshop, where I was Artist-in-Residence for 3 years. I currently have my studio
at LibertyTown Arts Workshop, in Fredericksburg, VA.

All pottery is handmade by Neal with stoneware clay. The decoration is done free-hand, using
no stencils or templates. The decorating is done using the ancient technique of sgraffito, where the top layer of
color, or slip, is scratched through, to the clay underneath. The work is inspired by nature and the potters that have come
before me.
