Early 1960s
These combinations of frame features occurred up until 1963, after which the more familiar checkerboard racing design
appeared on bicycles. According to the Classic Rendezvous' PX10 database, the checkerboard racing pattern was
first used by Team Peugeot in 1963, but may not have been available to the public until 1967. However, the 1964
French and 1965 Dutch catalogs clearly show the checkerboards on all the bicycle models.
This frame appears to match the AO8 pictured in the early 1960s USA Dealer's Brochure (this website) and the
PL8 in the Cycles Peugeot Velo Catalogue Pieces Detachees Et Accessories (below). Thanks to Richard Bryne for submitting
these photos. This frame sold for $255 on EBay on 25 December 2007.

According to its original owner, this bicycle is believed to be of ~1963 vintage. The serial
number etched into the bottom bracket shell is 115739. The UO8 described in the early 1960s USA Dealer's Brochure
lists burgundy as one of the available colors (this website). CyclArt refurbished this bicycle before
selling to a collector in Japan. Thanks to Greg for sharing these photos.

fork.

1964 to 1970
This combination of frame features occurred up until 1970. Although the 1970 and 1971 Franklin Imports' (New
York, NY) brochures (that were dated based on component specifications) show this decal pattern, the same photos
were used for both publications while the text was updated from one to the other. In addition, similar photos appear
on the United Import Sales, Inc. (Gardena, CA) page of Mark Thiffault's Bicycle Digest published in March 1972.
I have yet to see a well-documented 1971 UO-8 with these decals.

1975
Frames from 1975 had decals identical to the early 1970s. The only difference was that a plastic headbadge
replaced the foil decal on the headtube. Please note that higher end models, but not lower end models had this plastic
headbadge in 1974.
