The Courses are:

  • Basic Computing
  • Basic MS Excel
  • MS Word including E-Mail and the Internet

About the Courses

  • All the courses are 16-hours in length with two hours per week for eight weeks. The number of students is limited to eight per class allowing for individual attention from the instructor.
  • Each student is given a course workbook to hold their notes, handouts and exercises provided in the course. Extensive note taking is not necessary as each student is provided either a course guide (MS Word class) or daily notes (handout.) 
  • A 15-minutes break is provided at approximately the half way point in the session. Coffee, tea and other refreshments are provided.

  • Basic Computing
    • The Basic Computing Course is a comprehensive course which teaches adults basic computer technology and the fundamentals of using the computer. This course will teach adults the basic parts of the computer, how computers work, and how to use Windows XP operating system and many of the Microsoft Windows programs. There is one session that covers folder and file management. In addition, this course includes an basic introduction to the Internet, MS Word and MS Excel.
    • The course is designed for people who do not have a computer, who have just gotten a computer or people who have limited computer knowledge.
  • Basic MS Excel
    • Basic MS Excel is a comprehensive course which teaches adults how to use MS Excel. Some of the topics covered are: Writing Formulas, Formatting the Worksheet, Copying and Moving Data. It also covers other procedures the student will need to use the MS Excel software.
    • The course is designed for people who already have a basic knowledge of computers but have no training or experience using MS Excel.

  • MS Word
    • The MS Word Course is a comprehensive course which teaches adults how to use Microsoft Word. It cover such topics as: Editing and Enhancing a Document, Working with Columns, Tables and Graphics. It also covers other topics the student will need to use the MS word software.
    • Included in the course is a 50-page How to Guide for Microsoft Word workbook. 
    • The course also includes an introduction to e-mail and the internet.

Date and Times of Current and Upcoming Courses
  • The next MS Word Course will begin on September 23, 2008 and will end on November 11, 2008.
  • The next Basic Computing Course will be offered again on September 25, 2008. The class will end on November 13, 2008.
  • Both September classes will be morning classes.

There is no MS Excel Course scheduled at this time.

Location of the Courses

All three courses are being held at The Spot at 308 Reisterstown Road in Historic Reisterstown, Maryland.


Cost:
 
The cost of a 16-hour course is $85.00 per adult plus a $15.00 registration fee. All fees goes toward supporting the Reisterstown Youth, Inc., a non-profit after-school program for middle school children.
