Music Director and Conductor of the Andover Choral Society, ALLEN COMBS received his education at the University of Idaho and the University of Lowell.
Now in his eighteenth season with the group, he has led them in a diverse repertoire including Bach’s Johannes-Paßion, Orff's Carmina Burana, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Haydn’s The Creation, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah, Verdi's Requiem and Dixit Dominus and various works by Mozart, Dvorak, Saint-Saens, Schubert and Vivaldi.
Mr. Combs was also Music Director of Harvard Pro Musica for three seasons. He is currently an instructor in voice at Phillips Academy, Andover where he has also conducted the Fidelio Society and Academy Chorus.
Mr. Combs appears regularly as a tenor soloist in opera, oratorio and recital, and has performed with the choirs of Harvard, Brown and Tufts Universities and with the Merrimack Valley Philharmonic Society, the Reading Symphony and the Thayer Symphony. He has also been a soloist at Trinity Church, Copley Square (whose choirs he also conducted on numerous occasions) and The Church of the Advent, and is also a member of the Blue Heron Renaissance Choir. He has also appeared with Schola Cantorum and Cappella Alamire.
Mr. Combs has given numerous master classes for Boston area choral groups, and is currently the vocal director for the Composers’ Conference and Chamber Music Center at Wellesley College. In December of 2002 he conducted Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker for the New England Dance Ensemble in Derry NH.
