| The Club joined in partnership with Challenge
Unlimited. to develop a special therapy program for fifty emotionally and behaviorally
challenged children from the School for Exceptional Studies at the
Rollins School in Lawrence.
Fund raising for the program will begin with "Santa Night" on Friday, December 11, 2009 when members of both clubs will entertain shoppers and diners throughout the Merrimack Valley. Check here again for more news about the events as they unfold. This is the third of a series of three-year funding initiatives undertaken by the Kiwanis Club. The first enable the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence to fund an aquatics director to initiate what has been a highly successful swimming and water safety program from 2004 through 2006. That was in response to the tragic drowning of four children in the Merrimack River during December, 2003, because they could not swim. The second was a partnership with the Lawrence Y.M.C.A. to operate a Teen Achievment Center for middle and high school students in the "Y". |
