[Scroll down to see 2 other methods that work] The only program, that has been successful in curin addictions to alcohol or drugs, has been the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous.  The AA program is based upon surrender to God.

 

Fear not, the God to be surrendered to is not someone else's God, but the God of your own understandin.

 

Dr. Carl Jung and other healers of note have despaired of any cure for alcoholism.  Dr. Jung said the only chance for cure in his experience was a dramatic spiritual experience or awakenin.

 

 

80% AA members by followin the 12 steps have been able to attain the type of experience that Dr. Jung spoke of.

 

However, in recent time the figures have dropped to 20% recovery, because the meetins have taken a different tack.

 

 

One of the causes, of the loss of effectiveness of AA, is that many meetins have stopped followin the old format.  Many members have been sent to AA by agencies, such as county detox centers, for example.  In those centers, "group therapy" has been common practice.

 

When the new members came out of detox and entered into AA, they brought with them the idea that meetins were places to dump all their feelins on the group.  That comes from group therapy, but does not help recovery from alcoholism.

 

Therefore the recovery rate has dropped from 80% to 20%.

 

In the early day, addicts finished the 12 steps, guided by 2 members of AA, before they ever went to any meetin.  And normally only members with at least 2 years of sobriety would speak, the new folks kept their mouths shut and only listened.

 

Beside that, the modern unpopularity of God has caused foolish folks to be vulnerable to malicious suggestions from secretly hostile members, that they take strange concepts to be their "higher power", instead of God.

 

However, the Big Book of AA is explicit in many places sayin that God is the higher power, not some other substitute.

People, who have become associates in the Bill Britt branch of the Amway mlm association, have been able to quit alcohol and drugs.  It is not for everybody.

 

Your sponsor or upline has to be seen as a friend, and has to be effective, in other words, you have to do what they say, and you have to see it workin for you, both.  It is not for everybody.

 

 

If you are closely associated with a yoga ashram, on a daily basis, you may be able to stop addictions in the early stages.  Beyond that I can not speak, I do not know.
