Heritage Baptist Church is currently without a pastor. We are seeking
the Lord’s direction and will concerning a pastor. In the interim, we have a layman conducting the basic functions
of a pastor.
Our church is an independent fundamental Baptist church, formerly known as Nanticoke Independent
Baptist Church. The Sunday AM attendance was somewhere between 20 and 30 in mid-2004.
The last called pastor of the church resigned and left in the fall of 2004. For
13 months, the assistant pastor functioned as the pastor, then resigned and left in October 2005. All the while, the attendance continued to decline gradually.
Although not called to be a pastor, Michael Harrison, the last remaining male member with Bible college training and
ministry experience, assumed responsibility of the flock at that time. The people
were in unanimous agreement that the church should not disband, but maintain a presence in the City of Nanticoke.
Because our declining attendance had gone down to about 8, we could no longer keep making payments on the property,
so we sold it and dissolved the 501c3 corporation known as Nanticoke Independent Baptist Church. We resumed meeting
in homes and on Feb. 12, 2006 we assumed the name Heritage Baptist Church.
We would be delighted to have a full-time pastor, but until God sees fit to give us a pastor we are content to
continue meeting as we are. On Sundays, Michael conducts all services. His wife, Kim, plays her flute for the services. On Wednesday evenings, so that we can fellowship with other believers, and so that Michael can hear some
preaching, we attend another independent Baptist church about 20 minutes away. While
we are very much in agreement with the pastor there, we have never sensed the Lord’s direction to abandon the work in
our city and join that church.
We would appreciate your prayers for this home church, especially for God’s clear direction. We welcome visitors to our home church. Please look up our location and contact information and pay us a
visit. If you are a preacher, missionary, or evangelist traveling through our part of the country, we would be especially
delighted to receive a visit from you. If you would call ahead, we may be inclined to have you preach
to us.
