This is one of the few original historic (1900) Barnegat Light houses that has recently (2006) been completely renovated and added on to. It now has 360 degree ocean, bay & inlet views from the top deck. This is a magnificent high end renovation. The house was a featured home on the 2007 Barnegat Light Historic House and Garden Tour.

The house has four bedrooms, two baths, the original wood-paneled front porch, a new kitchen, a dining room, a living room, upstairs den, five separate decks and a very private garden.

The beach is 150 yards away at the end of our lovely block. The bay is two blocks away. The house is at the quiet, historic end of Barnegat Light, and you can see the lighthouse from many of our windows. . . . A perfect vacation spot.

    Location

Barnegat Light is at the northern tip of Long Beach Island, NJ. This is a barrier island, for the most part two blocks wide, with the bay on one side and the ocean on the other.

Barnegat Light is a very small town of houses (no high rises--there is a height limit of 30 feet) and very wide sand beaches (dunes, no boardwalk).

Our house is located at East 7th Street and Central Avenue on the beach block. Central at this point is a residential street that dead ends at 4th Street, the main boulevard having branched left along Broadway. The beach entance is at the end of our block and there are no streets to cross in your walk to it, which takes a minute or two.

    Within Walking Distance:

Barnegat Light town tennis courts, Ball Field, Marina, State Park with lighthouse, bird sanctuary, and nature walk, Antique shops, Restaurants, Ice Cream Parlor, Children's Playground.

    Beaches:

We are on East 7th Street at the noth end of Barnegat Light, which has wide sand beaches that are very natural and duny. The nearest lifeguard stand is at the 9th Street beach. During the season the town runs a free "tram" that runs on the sand and picks people up at the beach entrances from 4th to 9th Street and drops them at the 9th St lifeguard stand and makes a circle all day. The beach entrance at 9th street has a boardwalk part of the way and then a straight path to the water. There are lifeguard stands at intervals along the whole Barnegat Light beachfront from 9th to 30th Street and it is possible to swim at any of them. There is also a bay "kiddie" beach at 20th Street.

    Reviews from Previous Guests:

While we do not ask guests to write reviews, many many people have emailed us about their stay at our house. A few excerpts follow:

Wanted to thank you for the use of your amazing home.  We made the best of the weather and had a great time.  We road our bikes and prepared delicious meals with the abundance of fresh fish on the island. My husband got to fulfill his wish of being on the beach for a sunrise welcome on his birthday.  We sat on the top deck but despite the cloudy weather we enjoyed the view.   Linda, New Jersey, Sept 2009

Thank you so much for a pleasant vacation!  Your home is so very lovely.  My husband and I admired all your attention to detail with your decorating as well as your improvements.  And your gardens....your tall white and pink lilies opened shortly after we arrived and graced the yard with their beauty and wonderful fragrance.  What a joy to stay in such an inviting place.   Diane, New Jersey, July 2008

We had a very lovely time at your house. Very beautiful home. Thank you so much. David, Connecticut, August, 2008.

We LOVED your house. Thank you for renting to us. It was so comfortable and beautiful and I loved your books!!  Greg and our son went out two days deep sea fishing and I just enjoyed your house, your garden and your library. I hope we can come again. Mary, Maine, Sept 2007
