Labor Day in Warren County
will have all the excitement of any big city motorsports park with the 9th annual Cornfield 500 in Columbus, Pennsylvania at Baker Hill Motorsports. Pre-registration
starts at 9am on Friday, September 4th and continues until 7pm. Following registration will be live music with Rick &
The Roadhouse Rockers from 7pm to 11pm. Race Day is Saturday, September 5th with gates opening at 9:30am, events start at
11:30am. Saturday is fun packed with Monster trucks, Adrenaline Rush Rider Truck, motorcross, and live music with Buffalo’s Black Widow from 7pm to midnight, with a break for fireworks
at 9:30pm, hopefully enjoyed by over 5000 attendees.
Blair Miller seeded the Cornfield 500 in 2000, growing each year and hydrating the event
with the addition of his friendship with Sabrena (Kozik), six years ago. This has been some adventure for a couple that met
hunting in the woods. They are both sports and entrepreneur minded, a good match for the future they anticipate. They have
overcome some obstacles and gone full throttle for their race park and event center dream. “Our 140 acre farm will someday
be a variety race park, with the annual Labor Day Weekend race, the Cornfield 500, with various races planned in the future
to include mostly sanctioned events with an off-road track, hill climb, pulling track, and concerts.” Sabrena goes on
to tell, “This all takes money, time and know how, and it will slowly come about, with our persistence and faith. Our
visions include a gas station and hotel along route 6. We have friends, supporters, and sponsors that are also helping to
make this dream come true for the future generations in this area, along with creating employment, and bringing in tourists.
Close to 50 sponsors help us with this event, we make sure they are recognized in our advertising, at the event and on the
website. We are working towards our non-profit 501C3 status and funding from grants. Warren County Visitors Bureau Director,
Mike Olewine said, “What we’ve done for the Cornfield 500 is help them with advertising. We have made some rack
cards that are on display in our lobby for people to take with them. We’ve also helped them in advertising by donating
some passes to the event for door prizes with the Northwest Commission, Warren Ccounty Chamber of Business and Industry’s
Ladies Golf Outing, and our own Motorcycle Cruise-in. I have directed them to various government agencies to apply for grants.”
Past events have been filmed for a documentary by the SPEED channel and this year there
is a chance for a pilot with a series.
Blair and Sabrena’s story of meeting has some strong background connections. Blair's
grandfather, Al Fox, and Sabrena's grandfather, Thomas Kozik, were friends and worked as school bus drivers, and at a factory,
Raymonds, together. Sabrena's father, Dr. John Kozik, a chiropractor in Corry and Erie,
grew up on Baker Hill just down the road from where Blair and Sabrena currently live. Adding to the excitement of a wedding
day, Blair and Sabrena were married on July 5, 2008 in front of Country Music Television’s (CMT) 'Big Redneck Wedding'
film crew. The program features couples who plan unique country-western style weddings that include anything from shotgun
salutes to mud wrestling. The show aired on Nov 1, 2008 and can be viewed from a link on their website.
This year’s Cornfield 500 will include Short Course Off Road Racing (S.C.O.R.R.)
with the Truck Racing Series. These racers can reach heights of 20 feet in the air and jump lengths of more than 60 feet,
along with a freestyle show. Motorcross riders, Gary Robertson and Mike Leslie, will perform new stunts and larger jumps and
a possible back flip. Adrenaline Rush, a Rider Truck, will be available for rides both Friday, September 4th at pre-registration
and on Saturday, September 5th through out the day at the races. The very large diesel Monster Truck, Hush Power, is scheduled
to perform on Saturday, September 5th, and will be driven by David Radzierez from Henrysville,
Pennsylvania. Monster truck, Bad Habit, will be appearing at the Cornfield 500.
Joe Sylvester Motorsports owns and campaigns the Bad Habit Chevrolet from Boardman,
Ohio. Sabrena said, “The Monster Trucks will be on display at Leisure Time
Honda and the Beer Barn in Corry, prior to the event. The Monster Trucks and Rider Trucks are a special highlight for the
Cornfield 500 each year.”
Saturday’s schedule starts with registration from 9am to 11am, 11:30 National Anthem
performed by Amber Cooke, opening prayer offered by Dr. John Kozik, and the Green Flag will be dropped at 11:45am with racing
running until 5pm. The special show 50 lap Enduro Race holds $2000 in prize money for winners. “We will have crafters and food vendors,” Sabrena adds, “but we ask
that there is no glass at the race or pit area. We have ample camping and parking for those purchasing an event ticket.”
Please check the website for rules and regulations.
Together, Blair and Sabrena, operate Miller Salt Brine & Septic Service that works
with several oil & gas companies, townships, and the community. “The future looks good, and hopefully we can bring
in the jobs, tourism, and fun, into an area that the economy has taken its toll,” Sabrena concludes.
Blair says, “Get er Done!”
The Miller's Farm is centrally located between Erie and
Warren on Route 6 in Columbus, PA.
