Beginner Students:
Factors to consider for instrument selection:
-size of student
-permanent teeth are needed
-limitations are braces & missing teeth
-hand size and finger length for reaching keys and holding instrument
-A quiet child may want to play flute or clarinet.
-An outgoing child may want to play trumpet, trombone, or percussion.
-A passion for a particular instrument may overule all of the above.
Clarinet and Saxophone players will need to purchase several reeds, size "2".
After purchase or rental of instuments please do not take them out of the case and play with them until told
to on the first day of class.
Private
Lessons:
Students wanting private lessons
should contact James Robinson by phone before enrolling. These students are allowed to play in the band class that suits
their level. Student will only pay the Band music supply fee in addition to the private lesson fee and the privat
lesson music costs.
Practice Time:
Students
are expected to practice 20-30 minutes a day at least 5 days per week.
Music:
Each student will be provided music & music folder. All students will be responsible for bringing
their instrument, music books, and pencils each week for class.
Music Stands:
Students may want to have a simple fold up music stand to hold music. Anything "makeshift
at home" will do though. The director will have the music stands in class so students will not be required
to bring a stand.
Concerts:
Specific Information about concerts at Christmas & in the Spring will be sent by e-mail.
Absences:
If your child is absent
or going to be absent for whatever reasons, please call 598-6707 or e-mail as soon as possible. Please don't have your
child come if your child is sick. We want all to stay well the school year.
We will let you know about "homeschool music closings" for holidays, bad weather, etc. either
by e-mail, phone, website update or by all 3 if necessary to get the word out.
Late Enrollment:
Students enrolling late in a beginner class may need a few private lessons before attending.
Tuition:
Registration/music supply fees are non-refundable.
Your
tuition after initial registration should be given by parent or child the first day of every month of your child's class.
No refunds for missed group classes are given even if known prior to the
month's beginning.
Private students will pay for their entire month of planned classes the first day of every month of their class as
well, but parents or students must tell James Robinson by email which days they plan to be absent ahead of time.
Private students only pay for the actual lessons taken.
Conduct & Dress:
All conduct will be respectful to the director, James
Robinson, & to fellow classmates. If speech & actions are not “becoming
or suitable in nature,” the student will be asked to leave the day's class. No
further warnings after that should be necessary if desiring to be in the band.
Even though class settings will be
relaxed, dress will be modest, covering the body—pants at waistline, stomach
covered, no see-through shirts, no t-shirts with inappropriate pictures & writings; shorts at an appropriate length are
acceptable.
Check E-mails:
For planning purposes, parents will need to check their e-mails frequently for "homeschool
music" updates. If you are not a frequent e-mail "checker," now is the time to become one since a lot of our communication
will be done primarily by e-mail to let you know what is happening. You don't want to miss out.
E-mail reminders will be sent
out each month for tuition payment due as well as e-mail confirmations of payments received.
