To preserve and protect the historic and natural resources of Spotsylvania County
through education, advocacy and community involvement.
The Spotsylvania Preservation Foundation Inc. (SPFI) of Virginia was established in 1988 to help preserve
and protect Spotsylvania County's natural and historic resources. We are concerned with the preservation of natural
habitats, archaeological sites, historical landscapes and structures of historical and architectural significance. As
a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-volunteer organization, we are steadfast in our goal of ensuring the perpetuity of these assets
so that future generations may enjoy and learn from them.
SPFI was instrumental in the formation of the Spotsylvania Historic Preservation Commission, the Preservation
Ordinance, and the Historic Overlay District. We encourage citizens to study the county's rich heritage and develop
an interest in preserving historic resources throughout the county.
To learn more about SPFI, our projects and scheduled events please contact us at mail@spfi.org or write to us at PO Box 1875, Spotsylvania, Virginia 22553.
SPFI has rehabilitated the "Spotsylvania Jail" (above),
built at the Court House in 1855, and maintain it as a museum featuring the jail and it's role in Spotsylvania history.
