NEWS
March
2009: I have posted my panel schedule for Lunacon on the Appearances page. I hope to see lots of familiar faces there, but newcomers are always welcome.
Reminder: On April 21, 2009, I will be the featured speaker at
The New School Forum on Writing for Children. Hosted by Deborah Brodie, editor and coordinator of the Forum on Writing for Children, and sponsored by The New School Writing Program, I will be giving a lecture on the basics of juvenile publishing contracts -- terms, concepts and typical negotiation
issues for authors and publishers. The event will take place from 6:30 pm to 7:15 pm, at Alvin Johnson/J. M. Kaplan
Hall, 66 West 12th Street, room 510 in New York City. The event is free to all New School students, faculty, staff,
and alumni with ID. The cost to the general public is $5.
Details are now posted at The New School events site.
I am very much looking forward to giving this lecture. The Forum on Writing for Children hosts several speakers
each semester. Usually, only well-known childrens writers, such as Jane Yolen, give solo lectures. Business people
from the publishing industry (agents and editors) usually give panel discussions. To the best of my knowledge, I will be the first solo lecturer from the business side of the industry.
If
you are at all interested in childrens publishing, or want to learn more about publishing contracts, please come to the event.

What other writers had to say about my debut
story
"It's an sf insider story, with some neat
detail about what a publishing company might be like in the future." James Schellenberg,
Challenging Destiny website
"... Has the flavor and fun of reading King's wonderful BAG OF BONES, but in an SF
short piece ...shows Sean's talent for conjuring a believable alien race and a curious first contact in a very short space
indeed ...I inscribed 'Excellent!' and 'Wonderfully readable!' (in my copy)..." Pat Forde,
2003 Hugo Award Nominee for Best Novella
"Nothing like (almost) being yourself and writing about what you know,
is there?... (I) Wanna read some more! Lovely universe, very cohesive, practical. very believable. Did I say I loved your
alien? Liked it enormously." Lisanne Norman, author of the Sholan Alliance novels
