IMMEDIATE "2009"

PRESS RELEASE

IAMA 46th CHAMPIONSHIPS

The recently held 46th Annual I.A.M.A. Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Championships (April 19, 2009) was a complete success with an International attendance and a capacity crowd of enthusiastic competitors and spectators.

This event was sponsored by the U.S. First Annually held Martial Arts Tournaments promoter now Shihan Grade Black Belt Gary Alexander.

Alexander began sponsoring Championships after becoming the “First” North American “Knockout” Karate Champion of the U.S. (Oyama) and also of Canada back in 1962.

For the past 46 years these events that “demand contact” for decisions have drawn Martial Arts luminaries from around the world. Many of today’s Martial Arts Leaders got their first exposure to the general public and media through Alexander’s events.

This years event surprised many with an enormous turnout in the midst of these trysty economic times. The lineup of Grand Masters in oversight, Judges, and Referee’s read like a who’s who among the mostly East Coast U.S. luminaries, together with a smattering of National and International participation.

The attendee’s were treated to the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard which is SOP at Alexander’s events with “Color’s” being displayed and the National Anthem played by 16 years old Mac Tasetano on his trumpet.

As the Colors were marched out, in rolled the Lion Dancers from Grand Master Bill Chungs Shaolin Kung Fu. A colorful exciting display of the Lion “Dance” set the theme for the introductions of Officials led off with an unannounced appearance of Karate Legend Joe Lewis who arrived to support his former Marine friend Shihan Alexander.

The prestigious lineup of administrators included I.A.M.A and Associates Shihans Issac Henry, Bill Chung, Al Smith, Buddy Amato, G.J. Torres, Allen Goldberg, Joe Hess, Hector Arias, Skipper Ingham, Ralph Chirico, Richard Mrofka, Joe Yerkes, Ed Alexander, Morgan Woods, Carl Pluchino, Bill Durso, Kevin McGrath, Nick Adler, Ernie Temple, Mike Abruzzi, Fred Henry, and also Ray DeRobbio, Al Faucera, John DeBlasio, Steve Schachner, Rick Herbster, Mike Cassert, Eric Harzer, Frank Tasetano, Fran Haines, Pedro Diaz, John Driscoll, Ron and Maureen Mertz, Dr. Phil Defina, Eric Alder, Gene Malleus, Rodney Munoz, Tony Palitto, Christina Ingham, Lou Osiecki, Maldonado Cung Nhu, Mark Carvagno, Gary and Polly Melick, Tom Mullen, and many more that the Champion Administration thanks wholeheartedly.

Competitions began with the youngsters followed by the adult corps all of which displayed a terrific amount of enthusiasm, spirit, sportsmanship, and martial talents. Forms competition were both hand and weapons kata’s, followed by strong sparring with required contact. Techniques were clean and the fighters scored quickly. with the contact ruling there was not any bickering about points. The scores were evident to everyone.

The Grand Champion of the day was “Tariq Bey, a strong fighter and a previous I.A.M.A. event Grand Champion from the BKG Group of Isaac Henry’s out of Eatontown, N.J.

APRIL 18, 2010  WILL ADVISE SHORTLY!

Have a Great Summer!

NOTICE: "LOCATION"

TO IAMA CHAMPIONSHIPS SITE FROM NEWARK AIRPORT

Directions from Newark Airport to the Radisson Hotel, Piscataway, N.J. are as follows:

Watch for signs leaving Airport and go slow. It can be very confusing out there.

Look for Exit to and get on Route 1 South. Traveling Rt.1 South for approx 15/20 minutes.

Landmarks will be the Menlo Park Mall to your right (about 15 minutes down Rt.1).

Continue past that Mall (straight ahead) for another 1/2 mile and look for the overpass which is Route 287 North.

As you "approach" that overpass stay right and make the right turn onto 287 North.

Once on Route 287 North go about 5 minutes further to Exit 9.

Exiting at No. 9 a traffic light will be right in front of you. Turn Left coming back over Route 287. Once over Rt. 287 about 50 yards is a Traffic Light with an “obscure” jug handle left turn. Making that left you are now on Kingsbridge Road. Go approx ¼ mile and the Radisson Hotel will be to your left (hard to see the turnoff sign) sitting back off the Road down a small hill.NOTE: Seeing the Embassy Suites Hotel to your left on Kingsbridge Road make the next left

turn to Radisson Hotel.

We look forward to having you with us for this years event. Safe trip!

Dear Colleague,

We would like to invite you and your students to participate in our 46th Annual International Association of Martial Artists I.A.M.A. “2009” Karate, TaeKwonDo, Kung Fu Competitions.

This event is open to Competitors Internationally regardless of Style, or Affiliations. Competitors are not required to be I.A.M.A. Members.

In addition to the Competitions , we will Honor our Armed Forces with members of the United States Marine Color Guard Unit from Eatontown, N.J..

We will Honor the Pioneers, Legends, and those responsible for the growth of the Martial Arts in this country. Personalities and Dignitaries will also be present to be recognized for their contributions and achievements in various areas of humanities.

Since 1964, we are proud to say that we have sponsored the longest running Martial Arts Events in North America, arguably the “World“. These events were where the Pioneers and Legends of the Martial Arts made their First appearances as young Black Belts, and become known throughout the years as we traveled through 46 years of IAMA Karate Tournaments.

These Tournaments were made the success they are by the efforts of many of these same people that were there from day one.

Many of these Great Martial Artists have passed on.

Now, in attendance we will have a mix of the Old Timers and the New Breeders who will make their place as the future leaders of the American/World Martial Arts and carry on the traditions of Honor, Chivalry, and Integrity. These people will also be recognized for their qualities.

These are events that haven't forgotten what Karate is supposed to be….And! This is where the "Eagles" gather! Young and Old. To win here is a worthy win. There are no giveaways in the rings. There are no 4th, 5th, 6th, 99th place Awards.

You win or you don’t win!

All Judges, Referees! We appreciate your support for this historic event and a Commemoration will be given for their participation. Come in, Enjoy the Action, Have a Good Time, and lets make some more history !

Additional information can be downloaded from our website at: mysite.verizon.net/garyalex/ We look forward to seeing you there on April 19, 2009

Gary Alexander,
