Harlem Renaissance (Poem)
Who says the renaissance is dead?
Langston Hughes verses play in my head.
People travel from across the nation; to Harlem's destination.
Their attracted to the sights and sounds; that permeates this fab- famed town.
All moves to the rhythm- beat;
throughout busy streets.
Also here street games; nicknames with personality.
1930's music takes you places; perhaps to an oasis.
Food just tastes better here; no matter the time of year.
Talk about diversity; so much variety.
You know the spice of life; beans and Carolina rice.
Stop by Lenox Avenue for walking tours.
Come shop for more.
Even uptown here; so many faces- races.
The cultural explosion; implodes here, there and everywhere. By all means; do come up here.
Harlem is a diamond in the rough.
Some refer to my hometown as tough.
Harlem has given birth to politicians and housed musicians.
Fought for causes; never pausing.
Sure people get uptight when their money isn't right.
Our creative abilities are out- of- sight and tight.
Should you be searching for something new?
Come travel to Harlem; take my clue!
