Welcome to my website!

Here is a clearinghouse of information on Leslie Shafer's bridge teaching activities.  If you have any questions that you don't see addressed on this website, please let me know.

The best 10 years of my life started when I began to teach bridge full time, meeting all of you and making so many new friends.  What a blessing it is to be able to love your job.  Not only is bridge a wonderful sport, but we have found that for many students, it has enriched their own personal social contacts.

We are proud to say we have not raised our class fees in over 10 years!!   Our mission statement is to spread the love of bridge to everyone.  Have our expenses increased over the past 10 years?  Absolutely.  In attempt to keep our costs reduced, we are making your lesson sheets and hand outs available online here at this website (so far only 2 lesson sites, although we will try for more) so that we will not have to raise our tuition fees.  We hope to keep bridge affordable for everyone.  We appreciate your willingness to print out your own hand records so that we might reduce our copying expenses.  We all have to work together on this.  We ask that you try to keep up with your participation in taking lessons.  The economy is hard on ALL of us.  All of our lesson materials are copyrighted.  You are not to give out the password information to your friends.  If you think they would enjoy the material, then invite them to participate by coming to the class which WOULD entitle them to online access of handouts.  We thank you for understanding our position on this.

What can you do to help us?  We are attempting to put your hand records online here at this website for you to print on your own computer at home.  Also, you might consider subscribing to our newsletter which is only $25 per year (6 issues).  If you subscribe, it helps subsidize our bridge teaching income.  Again, we all need to work together to keep bridge alive and flourishing in the Montgomery County area.  We are committed to helping you, rest assured.

On this site, you will find a list of both current and upcoming classes in the Montgomery County (Maryland) area.  You will also find my classroom policies, humor, the best internet bridge sites and so much more.  I hope you enjoy what I have included here in the website for you.

Summer NABC, Washington DC - Yeah!!

Once every 10 years, the Summer Nationals are held right here in our area.  It is held downtown, right next to the National Zoo.  I wanted to tell you about an exciting event that happens at the first Saturday of the event on July 25.  It's called "Bridge University."  I have added a page to this website with a full schedule of events for you to peruse.  Click here to go to that page.

Positions Open!

I have a few brand new beginners who will need "review" lessons.  I'm unable to fit them into my schedule for the Summer or Fall, unfortunately.

This is a paying job and the review classes will consist of simple opening bids and responses.  If you are one of my more advanced students, and think you'd like to mentor some beginners, please contact me via email slamhand@verizon.net or call me at 301-977-0314.   Thanks -- Leslie

you played recently at home with your friends?
Print out a hand record and fill it out completely (with filled in cards, auction, opening lead, etc.) and either send to us via email or bring the print out to one of our classes.  We are very interested in your problem hands (and we all have them).  Double click on the next line to print out your blank hand record form to record your problem hand!!
