I have included a link to the "parent club" for Shelties: the American Shetland Sheepdog
Association. There you will learn about the history of Shelties, the breed standard, and lots of information about local clubs,
shows, events, etc.
A new addition is for Sheltie Pacesetter Magazine's web page. Since I'm co-editing the "Shelties
at Work" column now, this seemed like a good idea. I've added the contact information for submitting articles for the column
on my "Contact me" page of my website, by the way.
AWSS is the Association for Working Shetland Sheepdogs. This is a newly-organized group
and I'm excited about it. They are trying to maintain classic breed standards while emphasizing and recognizing true
WORKING characteristics, not just conformation. They have award programs for individual Shelties' acheivements ANd for being
parents or granparents of high-achievement offspring.
I've also added my home club site. The Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Baltimore is a large,
thriving club with several shows each year: Conformation, Obedeince and Rally, and Agilty. Plus we have herding instinct days,
seminars, and a fantastic Sheltie Rescue program!
The American Kennel Club (AKC) has a wealth of information about owning, registering, caring
for, and showing the purebred dog. The AKC sponsors many dog performance events, including Conformation, Herding, Obedience
and Rally Obedience, Agility, and Flyball.
The American Herding Breed Association (AHBA) was founded to provide many different herding
breeds (including some not recognized by the AKC) with the opportunity to learn and compete in herding events that more
closely resemble what a real "working dog" would encounter on a farm or ranch. Herding is ALL the AHBA does!
