What I love about the web is the opportunity to share my thoughts with others. But I also like to hear what others think, and to exchange ideas.

On this page, I'll share some of the comments I've received in my guestbook and via e-mail. Where appropriate, I'll include a link to the original log entry or essay that inspired the comment. In some cases, I may also respond to the comments.

My complaint to Martz dated 9/30/06. I never sign myself "Esq." but I am hoping they will pay some attention to this:

I am a daily passenger to and from New York City on Martz Trailways.

Yesterday (9/29/06) the 5:45 pm bus to the West End from New York City was unnecessarily delayed by the driver. I believe his name was Bruce (I overheard another passenger ask his name, probably for purposes of filing a complaint)

While we were in New Jersey, the driver pulled over to the side of the road and instructed someone to get off his/her cell phone as he/she had been on for over an hour. The driver obviously did not know the "culprit."

After 10 minutes, the driver pulled over yet again and stated that he "would drive 10 miles an hour all the way to the Water Gap" if the person did not get off the phone. (there was very light traffic) He also stated that he knew he was not hearing things, that someone had to be on their phone although he didn't see who it was.

By this time, however, it was fairly obvious to the passengers on the back of the bus that no one was talking on their phone, rather 2 men (in one of the last rows) were having a conversation amongst themselves. I believe that they did not speak English as they did not seem to understand what the driver was saying. Finally, another passenger asked them in Spanish to stop talking as it was making the driver angry.

I believe that the behavior of the driver was extremely unfair to the other passengers on the bus. First, Martz has no articulated policy against passengers talking to each other, although this can be far more annoying than cell phone usage. Punishing the other passengers, WHO ARE ALREADY SUBJECTED TO A 2 HOUR PLUS BUS RIDE twice a day every day is outrageous on the part of a Martz driver. Most of us would rather listen to someone talking on their cellphone than suffer unneccessary delays by the drivers.  Last night, there was very light traffic and we could have all been home much earlier (every other night last week had terrible traffic delays).

The bus also made an unscheduled stop at the Delaware Water Gap. We arrived in Effort about 30 minutes later than usual despite the light traffic.

As Martz is well aware, most of us commuters presently have no other choice but to ride Martz to and from NYC. This is a long hard commute and it is starting to get dark outside very early. Most of the overhead lights do not work well enough to even read. We have been requested not to use our phones. So we are essentially held captive every night for over 2 hours. Please try to ensure that your drivers do not unnecessarily prolong this.
