Our design goal was very specific. We wanted to rebuild our home on the Rockport coast with minimal impact on the plantings, existing ledge and wonderful views.

Jack Tremblay was hired before design & construction of our new home and he assured that we could achieve our goals with a few craftsmen, particularly those with expertise in the use of granite.

We had a very difficult site with quite a few problems with elevations and ledge outcroppings. We wanted the house to be easily accessible from the street, and still fit in naturally on the ocean side. The result we achieved with Jack’s help was right on the money.

We have had the good fortune to work with Jack twice, on two very different gardens. At our first home, Jack had little to work with: a shared driveway and awkward siting. He created a landscape design and hardscaping that transformed the plain drive into a welcoming gateway, and the stark lawn into a charming garden. In our new home we needed the reverse. It was too grand and formal for our taste. Again, Jack responded, using stone and plantings to create several small "outdoor rooms" and gracious gardens. His sensative use of scale and incorporation of unusual plant material make each of his designs unique. Our homes have looked significantly different than those he designed for our friends. While creating beautiful design, Jack also remains sensative to matters of cost. We cannot recommend him highly enough.

I retained Jack in the spring of 2004 for the landscape design of my home in Wayland, which my wife and I had recently purchased. I believe the outside of a home is just as important as the inside, and what attracted me most to this particular piece of property was the enormous landscape potential. I knew I could create something special and I wanted to do it with a group of professionals who respected my vision.

I realized immediately when I met Jack that we were on the same page. Jack is an artist (who, by the way, expresses his talent in other mediums besides landscaping.) This is important and I believe it differentiates Jack from other landscape architects. He also respects detail. My commitment to doing it right was not problem for Jack but rather a shared value. It was so refreshing not to be viewed as a "demanding" client, but rather as someone who has carefully thought out something that is important. Jack simply takes it for granted that the project is to be completed precisely as designed.

From a financial perspective I believe I have probably saved more money on the implementation phases of the project than it has cost me for Jack's services. A good landscape architect makes all the difference when you are buying materials and working with your landscape team. Jack has been the quarterback, if you will, as I have carefully and cost efficiently implemented our game plan. I am not done yet (it is an ongoing and exciting project), but you can rest assured that Jack will be part of my landscape team for as long as I need him and for as long as I am lucky enough to have him by my side.

Jack Tremblay’s landscape designs are a wonderful combination of aesthetics and practicality. He is careful to understand the existing conditions, and has the artist’s eye to see the potential, while being respectful of the budget. Jack brought us into the design process, so that we had a firm grasp of the project scope. He then showed us how to visually integrate the house to its setting, and the property into its surroundings. He has strong skills in designing masonry hardscape, selecting plants and laying them out with effect. We are more than pleased with the results.
