The famous quote from Dickens epitomizes the United States during the years of 1941-1945 in World
War II. We witnessed the most costly and deadly war in the history of the world with unforgettable names that are etched
in our memories, such as Pearl Harbor, Tarawa, Normandy, Iwo Jima, The Battle of the Bulge, Dachau and Hiroshima.
Back home, however, a patriotic fervor swept the nation and Americans banded together to win
this battle of democracy versus dictators and good versus evil. Everyone from the young to the elderly took
steps on the "Homefront" to ensure the United States would emerge victorious and support the brave men and women in uniform
around the world.
