Children’s Chapel Service--Children in kindergarten or pre-school through second grade are invited to attend a service conducted specifically for them. Every Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. come to the top floor above the Rector’s office. (The children first meet for an activity period in the space above the music room.) Children in this age group have an opportunity to learn and take part in liturgical worship at their level of understanding. They use a 20-minute prayer book service based on the Rite II Eucharist and learn hymns from the Hymnal 1982. They serve as crucifer, acolytes, and ushers. Before the actual worship begins, they participate in activities that relate to the worship service or to the lesson for the day. Emphasis is on learning through games, especially those that allow a lot of wiggling.

Choirs Have Resumed Rehearsals!--

HANDBELL CHOIR rehearsals on Thursdays in September at 7:00 p.m. in the Music Room.

DIRECTORY UPDATES

Should you have updates, corrections, or additions to the St. Michael's Episcopal Church Parish Directory, please contact Cindy Matlack who is maintaining the database.

NAME BADGES

Since we have many new parishioners, you are reminded to wear your name badges. If you need a name badge, please request one on the form located on the table by the name badges and one will be made for you.

LOOKING FOR USED CELL PHONES

Doorways for Women & Children, along with other women's shelters, collects used cell phones. The phones are either recycled and used for emergency service for women who are being threatened or harassed, or they are turned into Shelter Alliance which recycles components of the phones and pays the shelters for each phone that is turned in. Either way, the women and shelters benefit and you can clear out some junk from your home! Please put the cell phones in the box at the back of the Church. Any questions, call Caroline Haynes.

ENJOY COFFEE HOUR - SIGN UP TODAY TO HELP!

We have posted some hints on what to do to host a Coffee Hour at St. Michael's. Our wonderful sexton, Carlos Marquina, makes hosting coffee hour easier than ever. Carlos makes the coffee and tea and puts out tablecloths, sugar, creamer, etc. With Carlos’ help, yes 11:l5ers and choir members CAN host coffee hour! All you need to do is provide goodies and Carlos will do the rest for you. You may drop food off on Saturday or before 9:15 AM on Sunday. (Please label all food “for coffee hour” and include the date.)

All parishioners are encouraged to make or buy extra loaves of banana bread, muffins, or any items that freeze well. Make sure to label all your freezable goodies “for coffee hour”; tell what the item is and include the date. Carlos will put these items out when coffee hour is “self-catered”.

Do you remember how wonderful it was when you were welcomed at coffee hour? If so, please sign up to host or make or buy something to freeze. Let’s keep our beloved tradition going strong! If you have any questions, email Lisa Harkins at wldharkins@aol.com. P.S. Please don’t forget to thank Carlos for all his help!

RECYCLING OF EYE GLASSES

St. Michael's collects used eye glasses to be recycled by the Lions Club. A box for receiving these glasses is available outside of the Church Office.

FALL, WINTER, SPRING SCHEDULE OF SUNDAY SERVICES

  • 9:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist Rite II and Children's Chapel
  • 11:15 a.m. Holy Eucharist Rite I

We Don’t Live Forever, But Your Stories Will!-- Did you ever see Nat King Cole in the pews? Who absconded with the trophies the men’s softball team won? What became of that group of defecting Czech students St. Michael’s hosted? And just what is the Order of St. Andrew?

If you know the answers to these questions, please, speak up! St. Michael’s is launching an oral history project to collect your stories and anecdotes about parish life, past and present. If you are privy to little-known or just funny facts about our former parish priests or bishops, administrators, parish members, or assorted goings-on, please consider sharing them.

Take a moment to rummage through your old scrapbooks and picture albums. Reminisce together. Then write down your memories and experiences and e-mail them to: history@stmikeec.org. Alternatively, drop a letter in the Oral History Project box in the Parish Hall. Please provide as many details as possible: names, dates, most memorable individuals or events, special occasions no longer celebrated, unusual parish projects in which you were involved, parish activism, descriptions of St. Michael’s at its inception, projects with other parishes, recreational activities you miss, unforgettable social events or traditions, church weddings, famous people who were members, unusual ministries you helped start and lead, most memorable sermons, etc. And don’t forget to include your own name, how long you’ve been at St. Michael’s, and the best way to reach you for additional information. As their time permits, Evelyn Bence and Maureen Doallas will collate, organize, and edit your contributions for eventual and ongoing publication on the Web and in periodic articles in The Guardian.

Through your stories we can preserve for the future St. Michael’s rich cultural history. Enjoy the memories!
