Holtorf Pumpkin Carving Halloween Art Display Has Ended.
Sadly, after nearly 30 years of displaying creative pumpkin art, the driveway
will be dark. Old man time has finally caught up with us. It is time to retire.
If you are looking for pumpkin-carving ideas, then some of these photos
may provide inspiration. You are limited only by your imagination and a few carefully selected tools.
Pumpkins are an amazing canvas and offer a multitude of
creative ways to use them as an art medium. Large pumpkins make for great carving and our favorite variety was
the Atlantic Giant. They are smooth, soft and thick with large carving surfaces. Hundred pounders are the
best. However, they are short lived after they are carved. BOO! The largest pumpkin we carved weighed 425
pounds. Nice canvas, hard to move!
Over the years, we created creatures, characters and scenes along
with renditions of master art works done by Renoir, Monet, Rockwell and Van Gogh, just to name a few. An art teacher
noted that viewing our art was like taking art history 101. In addition to witches, goblins and assorted
Halloween standards, we had many kid-friendly characters and several optical illusions. A revolving
turn table allowed for even more carving ideas with a 360 degree view. Red Cloud will not make an appearance this year
belching smoke as he gets “fired up” talking with his little friends
and maybe some adults too. He has earned retirement too. If you still need a pumpkin fix on Halloween,
and didn't get to see our show, we have a Chapeter in Copenhagen, Denmark. Airfare not included.
Sad but the time has come to call it quits. Hope you enjoyed the
show. It was fun while it lasted.
