Friends of the Red Knot is a club whose members are working to save the Red Knot bird from extinction. The club was formed when a few students at the GreenMount School in Baltimore, MD decided to get together and look for ways to help the Red Knot bird. The Red Knot is a small, plump, reddish shorebird. Every year, the Red Knot rufa subspecies migrates from Tierra del Fuego in Chile and Argentina to the Arctic region of Canada to breed. To learn more about the Red Knot and why it needs to be saved, click here.

Follow the Activities of the Shorebird Project Team

You saw them on the PBS series, Nature, in the episode, Crash: A Tale of Two Species.

Now you can follow the progress of the  biologists who study Red Knots. The Shorebird Project Team, led by Dr. Larry Niles and Dr. Amanda Dey, follows Red Knots from Tierra del Fuego to Delaware Bay and the Arctic. Their blog postings are a great way to keep up with current information on Red Knots and other shorebirds and to learn how scientists conduct field studies. There are great photos too! Don't miss this blog!
