I now offer an Edelbrock weather guard cover for my breathers. It will fit both the oiled and paper filters and you can run it all the time tucked in or keep it in your bag and pull it over the filter when needed.

Performance air breather Pros & Cons:

There are basically two styles of performance air breathers for the VTX. A supercharger style and an open filter style

Super Charger Style:

Pros:

1) Looks great on your bike.

2) Allows more air than stock breather.

3) Fits many different bikes.

Cons:

1) Air is forced into the carburetor with different force at different speeds not allowing you to properly tune your carb. If you were to Dyno tune your bike, you would need to force air into the breather to get a (real world) reading.

2) At high speeds if too much air is forced into the carburetor it will make your engine run lean and possibly overheating the valves.

3) This style breather sticks out much further than any other breather, and may be uncomfortable on your leg and knee.

4) Installation can be very challenging.

5) Price $299.00

Open Filter Style:

Pros:

1) Looks great on your bike.

2) Allows more air than stock breather.

3) Does not force air into your carburetor allowing your bike to be properly tuned.

4) Fits many different bikes.

Cons:

1) Back plate has no velocity stack.

2) Back plate has nothing to slow the air at high speeds, sometimes allowing the air to pass the venturi so fast it actually tries to suck air out of the carburetor.

3) At any speed, if your carburetor does not get enough air, your bike will run rich and possibly foul your spark plugs.

4) No outlets for the crank breather or pair valve. You must add a second filter for your crank.

5) Price $249 - $299

ASHFORD Open Air Breather:

Pros:

1) Looks great on your bike.

2) Velocity stack on venturi will speed up air entering the carburetor for faster throttle response.

3) Air dam running to the velocity stack slows air at all speeds, allowing the carburetor all the air it wants.

4) Has inlets for both crank and pair valve. (plug included if pair valve has been removed)

5) Air dam on crank inlet that also works as an oil drip lip.

6) Installation is the easiest you will find anywhere. (three carb screws and a cover nut)

7) Price $99

Cons:

1) Only fits VTX 1300 (all years)

No brackets to get in your way.

You can even adjust your A/F

screw with my breather on.

The performance resin I use is rigid and durable. It will resist moisture, heat, solvents, dilute acids and is strong enough that it can be machined.

The process I use for making my breather allows me to add performance enhancements that would not be cost efficient for a steel breather.(thats why they don't offer them even at three times the price of mine)

My breather has a velocity stack to increase air intake speed into the carburator and decrease air flow resistance, which means more performance.

The air dam going to the velocity stack slows the air flowing through the filter allowing the venturi all the air it demands at high speeds. It has a Pair Valve inlet and a Crank inlet and with an air dam (wind break) on it to break the air flow and ensure adiquate air intake.

The crank air dam also works as a oil drip lip. If your crank likes to spit oil, it will sit in the lip instead of on your filter.

IMPORTANT INFO

Due to the increased demand for my breather and lack of time for my family, I will only be making and shipping breathers two days a week. This means it may take me 5 or 6 days to get your breather shipped. I always ship (USPS Priority 2-3 day shipping). I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but I must put family time first. If you email me, I will reply within 3 days unless I’m on vacation. When I go on vacation I will remove the (Buy Now) button and replace it with vacation info.

Thank you

Ashford
