A Wild West Shootout
Winchester, VA -- EPIC Stars and ASC United met in a make-up game with the result possibly determining
the division champion. At halftime, not many thought that it would come down to the final minutes. But it did
and EPIC prevailed 6-5.
United gave up five first half goals, mostly on bad errors in the back or a missed offside call.
They pulled two back though before half from Jaimie and Chrystal. Chrystal's came from a penalty kick earned when Stephany
got tripped by the last defender.
"No card! Not even yellow," said Coach Sheehan.
The officiating was mediocre but the second half action was not.
United had a little gut check at half but focused on the things that would make them successful.
Chances would come if the opponent had to work harder, chasing our possession.
Jaimie scored another on a great delivery by Alyssa to the left wing. It's now
5-3. It was then 5-4 when Chrystal drifted wide right, received the ball at her feet, and powered into the box and finished
near post. United got the equalizer when Katie ran down a loose ball and beat the diving keeper.
"We really came out with more purpose in the second half. Our ball movement for about
half the game was very nice. If we could just commit to that consistently, we'd be very hard to beat."
But unfortunately for United, EPIC capitalized on a corner kick that was not cleared properly.
The game ended 6-5.
"We always seem to get in these wild games at Sherando Park. Despite the disappointment
at the result, it's good to see the second half response and take something positive from a game against one of the top teams
in the division."
