CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE THEATER

"Jewels & Incense"
NEXT SHOW FOR FALL 2009 SAT. NOV. 21 7-9 pm

Performing in the student recital
The recital gives students the opportunity to:
- show what they have learned
- dress up in fun costumes
- perform in a safe and friendly environment
- share fun & camaraderie with others
DRESS REHEARSAL: SUNDAY, NOV. 15  4:30 - 6:30 PM
Wear your costumes & makeup.
Rehearsal is not in exact order to expedite time; DJ not present (just boombox - but professional music service at the show)

The show begins with a processional of all cast onto stage from entrance to theater. At dress rehearsal, you will
be directed as to the how-to of this. We clap, play zills, drums, tambourines, etc. I will have some items available, bring if you have!!
Wear cover-up over costume at all times, including procession entrance, except when you are on stage performing, and at curtain call. I have some [veils for coverup, tho a caftan(loose overgarment) is preferable] to loan.
We do the processional first, then the dances, then the curtain call.
**THIS HAS CHANGED FROM PREVIOUSLY DOING CURTAIN CALL EARLY:WE WILL PRACTICE IT AT THE END NOW (where it belongs :-)!!
At curtain call, you come out with your dance group, go to front of stage, bow together, and then form a "horseshoe" shape at the back of the stage. Take your time with this & enjoy the applause! Your dance order for CURTAIN CALL is posted on dance lists.  It is NOT the same as your dance order in show.
Soloists & duets also take a bow separate from their group.
The larger dressing room next to ladies bathroom is for all classes & students, including Treza's & Becky's; the smaller one down the hall is for Masouda Ensemble and guest soloists.
If you are only in one dance, or have a long time between, you may change into street clothes, or wear a cover-up & watch show in audience. You can sit with your family & friends if you wish. Please be discreet entering and exiting and never do so during a dance.
You must be ready in the wings at the dance right before you. There are lists posted with dance order. You must be ready in the wings, during the finale dance, for curtain call. Curtain call is also a lot of fun!
If you change into street clothes, you need to put a costume back on for curtain call. It can be any costume.

If you have any ? feel free to email or call me 572-9153.
Looking forward to seeing everyone & having a great time!!

The audience is comprised mainly of family and friends happy to encourage our creativity & effort. Guest artists are professional dancers with many years of experience, as well as students of other teachers invited to perform.
The recital consist of performances by my students,
guest artists, Rhythms of de Nile percussion group,
and my troupe The Masouda  Dance Ensemble.
There are also drawings for prizes for Belly Dance related items, such as jewelry, zill bags, CDs, books, DVDs. Approx 9 prizes are given out in 3 separate drawings!

The recital is held in the beautiful Clinton Community College Stafford Theater. The theater was built in 1999, seats 200 and gives an intimate, yet spacious feel. It is a beautiful little gem of the North Country!

* Historical note: :-)Before the theater was built, I used to hold my CCC recitals in the lobby of the main building with 100 or so chairs set up in a horseshoe shape. It is one of those large classically elegant type lobbies with a huge fireplace and balcony overlooking Lake Champlain. That was a lot of fun too and had a nice connection with the audience.

The student performances with my current classes will be the dances that you learn in class. You must be able to attend the dress rehearsal in the theater.
CHOREOGRAPHY: Go to page for your class [CCC or Premier]
COSTUMING:         on COSTUME PAGES
Costumes are simple & I  have some to loan.

If you are performing for the first time and are nervous, there are lots of good tips to help quell nerves:
-Practice at home with your notes & music; the more familiar you are with your dance, the more relaxed you will feel while dancing
-Use deep breathing and relaxation techniques
-Remember that if you make a mistake, keep smiling and moving with the music; chances are no one will notice if you keep going / Some beautiful dance moves have been created from "mistakes"!
-Practice with expression!! You do not need to smile every minute, but you do need to try and show some facial expression. Make expression part of your dance

The audience wants to see that you are having a good time!!
