Hello ASAP parents and
gymnasts!
My name is Talia (Trapuzzano)
Eubanks, and I am a Physical Therapist, Board certified sports specialist, and athletic trainer from OIP Physical Therapy
(managed by Drayer Physical Therapy Institute). Some of you (unfortunately!)
already know me because of past or current injuries. Some of you may never see
me! The rest of you will just say hello in passing. I have been working the Barry for the past year, helping to keep the gymnasts healthy. I will currently be at the gym 3 nights per week from about 4-6:30 to offer my services. My primary hope is to prevent injuries from occurring by catching what is hurting before it becomes an
injury. I can offer screenings that I can discuss with you, the parent, as to
whether you wish to pursue further treatment. I also will offer rehabilitation
and conditioning to any gymnasts who are injured. The benefit is that any rehabilitation
will be done on site when I am there, keeping busy families from extra traveling. An
even greater benefit is that I was a former Level 10 gymnast in Pittsburgh, PA, and therefore understand all aspects of the
sport, from the lingo, to the seasons, to routines, and also rehab and re-entry into specific levels. You will probably find that my return to gymnastics advice will vary greatly from “rest if for 2
weeks”!
The clinic where I work
is located on Union Deposit Road next to the Central Penn Fitness Center, beneath the OIP Physicians office. I am there Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9-3:30 and then I travel to the gym for treatment from about
4-6:30. Tuesday and Thursday you can find me there from 10-7:00pm. You can reach me at work during those times at 717)920-4950.
Since I started being
at the gym more often, most of you are probably wondering how, exactly, these services work.
I will see the gymnasts at no charge for screenings or advice, and then refer them out as necessary for diagnosis and
treatment. After I see them, I will issue them paperwork and follow up with you,
the parent, to discuss any concerns and whether you wish to pursue treatment. In
Pennsylvania, a physical therapy prescription is required in order to treat an athlete or patient. Therefore, follow up visits can only be done after the gymnast sees a doctor, as well as with your consent. Your insurance will be billed once I have your consent and the prescription from the
physician as if I were treating the gymnast in the clinic. The only change is
that I see him or her at the gym. It is important to note:
·
I cannot offer treatment beyond advice if you do not give your consent or
see a physician for a prescription for physical therapy!!!
· Also, please
do not let insurance or cost be an issue in determining if you want to pursue treatment.
I would much rather help improve the health and wellness of the gymnast than allow insurance be an obstacle. I can put you in touch with someone in our insurance or billing office to discuss options with you if you
would like. Please let me know!!!
·
If you do not have a physician that
you prefer to see, I work closely with Dr. Cordas at the Arlington Group. He
is a sports medicine trained primary care physician with whom I have open communication.
Additionally, he should be able to see the gymnasts within 48 hours.
My plan for keeping the gymnasts healthy includes the following:
- Open communication with the coaches, family, gymnast, and myself
about all injuries, aches, and rehabilitation, no matter how big or small.
- Preventative strengthening, sport specific, with influence from
my time spent with the National Team girls’ physical therapist.
- Information on nutrition, strength training, body health and
injuries for parents and athletes (via bulletin board, mass email, etc)
- Utilizing Soft Tissue Release techniques for soft tissue mobilization
and scar tissue adhesion removal from repetitive motion and muscular imbalance
- First point of contact for you! For any questions big or small,
24 hours per day on my cell phone or email, to advise to advise the best proper care before seeking any other health care
treatment, unless it is an emergency situation.
- Source of ancillary health care, including orthotics fitting,
strength and training regimens for weaknesses in and out of the gym, flexibility programs, spine assessments, etc.
If you need to see me or would like a consultation, just talk to Barry or any of the other coaches. Or, just contact me directly on my cell phone, at work, or via email. Remember, no pain should be left alone, and injuries only get worse.
I am not ultra-conservative, but I also care about the long term health and potential of each gymnast.
Attached you will find my bio, my contact information, and a little more info about my program. In addition, you will find an intake form for your information and a consent to treat form. If you agree, you can fill this information out ahead of time. I
will still contact you if I see your gymnast for a screening/evaluation prior to initiating any treatment.
Please let me know if you have any questions, or just want to chat! I
am also open for suggestions for bulletin board topics.
Have a great day, and even better upcoming season, and see you in the gym!
GO ASAP!
Sincerely,
Talia (Trapuzzano) Eubanks, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS
