Ring Around the Grannies

 

4 ply worsted weight yarn (a great pattern to clean out your scrap basket!)

H hook

Center Granny Square Section (make 3 Granny’s)

1st. corner = Chain 3(counts as 1st dc), work 2 more dc, chain 3, 3 dc.

 

Corner = 3 dc, chain 3, 3 dc.

 

Change color on each round or not! Use you imagination.

Round 1:    Chain 4, join with slip stitch to 1st chain to make a ring.

                   Chain 3(counts as 1st dc), work 2 more dc, chain 3, 3 dc, 

chain 3, 3 dc, chain 3, 3 dc, chain 3 in same ring. Join with slip stitch to top of 1st chain 3.

Round 2:    Slipstitch across to 1st chain 3 corner. Chain 3(counts as 1st dc), work 2 more dc, chain 3, 3 dc in 1st corner. Work 3 dc, chain 3, 3 dc in each remaining corner around. Join with slip stitch to top of 1st chain 3.

Round 3:    Slipstitch across to 1st chain 3 corner. Chain 3(counts as 1st dc), work 2 more dc, chain 3, 3 dc in 1st corner. Work 3 dc in space between this corner and the next. Work corner. Work 3 dc in space between this corner and the next. Work corner, repeat around. Join with slip stitch to top of 1st chain 3.

Weave in all ends securely.

Whip stitch the 3 granny’s together in a row.

 

Rectangle Area:

Join any color in any corner. Work chain 3(counts as 1st dc), work 2 more dc, chain 3, 3 dc in 1st corner. Work 3 dc in space between each 3 dc group from row (or granny’s) below, across to next corner. Work corner, repeat around. Join with slip stitch to top of 1st chain 3.

Work this pattern for 20 rows, changing colors as desired.

 

Make 36 more, 3 round grannys. Whip stitch them together and whip stitch each strip to each side.

Be sure to weave all ends in securely.

Join any color in any corner. Work chain 3(counts as 1st dc), work 2 more dc, chain 3, 3 dc

in 1st corner. Work 3 dc in space between each 3 dc group from row (or grannys) below,

across to next corner. Work corner, repeat around. Join with slip stitch to top of 1st chain 3.

Continue until piece measures approximately 52 x 65“ or approximately 12 more rows.

Finish with several rows of sc or try a row of reverse sc.

Ruffled Square Baby Blankie

 

Approximately 16 -18 oz. light worsted weight yarn. Model used Caron Simply Soft. Red Heart Soft and Bernat Satin are also excellent choices.

“G” crochet hook

Yarn needle

48 inches of ¼” ribbon (if desired)

1 tiny rose bud (if desired)

 

Special Stitches:

4 dc Popcorn Stitch (4Pop) = Work 4 dc in same stitch, drop hook, put hook through top stitch of the first dc and through top of last dc made. Yarn over and pull through both loops, chain 1 to fasten popcorn. (4dc popcorn stitch made).

dc in the ring) 3 times, chain 1, join with a hdc to the top of the beginning chain 3

to form the last loop.

Round 2: Chain 3 to count as the first dc, dc around the hdc-joining, skip next

dc, (dc, chain 3, dc) in the next dc, *skip next dc, (2 dc, chain 3, 2 dc) in the next

chain 3 space, skip the next dc, (dc, chain 3, dc) in the next dc* Repeat from *

to * 2 times, skip next dc, 2 dc in the next chain 1 space; chain 1, join with a hdc to

the top of the beginning chain 3.

Round 3: Chain 3 to count as the first dc, dc around the hdc joining, chain 2, 6 trc

in the next chain 3 space, chain 2, *(2 dc, chain 3, 2 dc) in the next chain 3 space, chain 2, 6 trc in the next chain 3 space, chain 2* Repeat from * to * 2 times, 2 dc in the next chain 1 space; chain 1, join with a hdc to the top of the beginning chain 3.

Round 4: Chain 3 to count as the first dc, dc around the hdc joining, chain 2, dc in

the next trc, (chain 1, dc in the next trc) 5 times, chain 2, *(2 dc, chain 3, 2 dc) in

the next chain 3 space, chain 2, dc in the next trc, (chain 1, dc in the next trc) 5 times, chain 2* Repeat from * to * 2 times, 2 dc in the next chain 1 space; chain 1, join with a hdc to the top of the beginning chain 3.

Round 10: Chain 3, work 1 dc over hdc of previous row. Work 1 dc in each stitch across to the first chain 3 space. Work 2 dc in this space, 1dc in the sc, 2 dc in next chain 3 space. Work 1 dc in each stitch to the next corner. Work 2 dc, chain 3, 2 dc, in corner space. Repeat around, joining with chain 1, hdc in top of first chain 3.

Rounds 11 & 12:  Chain 3, work 1 dc in each stitch around working 2dc, chain 3, 2dc, in each corner. Join with chain 1, hdc in top of first chain 3.

Round 13: Chain 2, hdc over hdc from row below. Work 1 hdc in each stitch around working 2 hdc, chain 3, 2 hdc, in each corner. Join with chain 1, hdc in top of first chain 3.

Round 14:  Chain 3, dc over hdc from row below.  *Skip 2 stitches, dc in next stitch, chain 2,* repeat * to * until next corner. Work 2 dc, chain 3, 2 dc in corner space. Repeat around

Round 15: Repeat round 13.

Round 16, 17, 18: Chain 3, dc over hdc from row below. Work *chain 3, skip 1 stitch, sc,  across to next corner. Work 2 dc, chain 3, 2 dc, in corner space* Repeat around. Join with chain 1, hdc in top of first chain 3.

Round 19, 20, 21, 22: Chain 3, dc over hdc from row below. Chain 3, work 1 dc in each stitch around working 2dc, chain 3, 2dc, in each corner. Join with chain 1, hdc in top of first chain 3.

Round 23: Chain 3, dc over hdc from row below. Work 1dc, chain 3, 2 dc in same corner space. Work 1 dc in each of next 2 stitches. Work a 4 dc popcorn stitch (4pop) in next stitch. #*Skip next 2 stitches. Work 1 4 dc popcorn stitch in next stitch.* Repeat across to next corner. Work 2 dc, chain 3, 2 dc, in corner space. # Repeat # to # around ending with chain 1, hdc in top of first chain 3.

Round 24, 25, 26, and 27:  Repeat rounds 19, 20, 21, and 22.

Round 28:  Chain 1, sc over hdc from row below. #*Chain 4, skip 2 stitches.* Repeat across to next corner. Work 2 sc, chain 3, 2 sc, in corner space. # Repeat around ending with chain 1, hdc in top of first chain 1.

Round 29: Chain 4 (counts as 1st trc). Work 1 trc, chain 3, 1 trc, chain 3, trc in next chain 4 space. Work 1 trc, chain 3, 1 trc, chain 3, trc in next corner space. Repeat around ending with 1 trc, chain 3, 1 trc, chain 3, attach to top of 1st chain 4.

Round 30:  Slip stitch into first chain 3 space. Work 1 sc, chain 3 in each chain 3 space around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st sc.

Round 31: Slip stitch into first chain 3 space. *Chain 3, work 1 dc in base of this same chain 3. Sc in next space.* Repeat around, join with a slip stitch and fasten off. Weave in all ends.

Weave a length of ribbon through spaces in round 14 if desired.
