GROTON DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS
February 20, 2010

Registered Democrats in Groton will be holding a caucus on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 1:00 PM at the Town Hall, 173 Main Street, Groton, to elect five (5) delegates and three (3) alternates to the 2010 Massachusetts Democratic Convention. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women in accordance with Democratic Party rules.

The Convention will be held on Friday, June 4, and Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the DCU Center in Worcester. At that time, delegates from across the state will gather to endorse statewide candidates.

The caucus is open to registered Democrats in Groton as of December 31, 2009. All ballots will be written and secret. Those not elected as Delegate or Alternate, who meet specific qualifications, may apply to be add-on delegates in the following categories: youth, minority, and disabled.

Discrimination on the basis of race, sex, age, color, creed, national origin, religion, ethnic identity or economic status in the conduct of the caucus is strictly prohibited. Challenges to the delegate selection process can be filed with the Massachusetts Democratic Party, 56 Roland Street, Suite 203, Boston, MA 02129 no later than ten (10) days after the caucus.

Youth Convention

The Democratic State Party invites high school students to attend a Youth Convention in conjunction with the state convention on June 5, 2010 in Springfield, MA.

  • Students will sit with their delegation during the business portion of the convention during which the party platform will be discussed.
  • Students will attend youth-oriented break-out sessions while the adults attend their own break-out sessions.

The Ayer, Dunstable, Groton, Pepperell, and Townsend Democratic Town Committees would like to encourage interested high school students to participate and learn more about the political process.

The fee is $25 due by April 5, 2010, but can be waived. The First Middlesex Democrats have offered to pay the registration fee for 10-12 young people in our five towns. Please contact your local democratic town committee for specifics. They can also provide you with the name of the chaperone for each town. See contact information below:
