The five-year-old daughter of young friends who live nearby is the light of my life. I'm her honorary auntie. Didi has osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bones), a genetic disorder that makes her vulnerable to fracture. (She has broken her left femur five times.) An experimental treatment (IV pamidronate) is improving her bone density, but there is no cure.
