2007 - 2008 Rides
December 19, 2007 - TRAILS ARE OPEN!!!! A group of us
met up today for our first official ride. We rode to Bear Swamp to eat lunch at The Colonial Lodge. Conditions
were great with the exception of a few running creeks and mud holes. Guess we need a few more bridges!
January 5, 2008 -What a day this ended up being! We started out in the morning thinking we'd have
to cut our day short. Once we got over Franklin St the conditions were great. We met up with Bruce and Joe in
Skaneateles and decided to head to Bear Swamp and grab lunch at the Colonial Lodge. The further south we got the more
awesome the conditions were! After lunch we headed to Lake Como and on through Moravia to take that trail
home. All in all it was a great day riding. Can't wait till our next one!
January 25, 2008 - 9 of us headed to Two Guys in Central Square to
drop off and head out. We headed east on the old railroad bed where the riding was awesome! After that the trails
were fair to good. We stopped at the Florence Hotel for lunch. We all sat around trying to make sense of the trail
markers and the maps. None of the other riders there seemed to be able to figure them out either! After lunch
we headed for Redfield where the trail conditions got really rough and the traffic increased. From Redfield we
went to Parish and headed back to Central Square, got lost for a while on an unmarked farmer patrolled trail. Ever get
chased by an angry farmer on a tractor??? 4 of the guys in our group will tell you it's no fun, just ask them! We
all ended up getting back to Two Guys safely. Gotta say, we all had a blast!
February 14, 2008 - A few of us took the day off and headed north.
We dropped off at Two Guys From Italy in C-Square. We decided to head to the Florence Hotel for lunch. The trails
were fantastic and made for fast riding. What a great day!
February 16, 2008 - We all braved the local conditions
and rode north to Fair Haven. The conditions were fair to poor until we past TC's in Cato. Once we past
there the conditions improved tremendously! I guess the Park Police thought the same thing because they set up a road
block and were checking everyones registration and insurance. They had quite a few people pulled over and getting tickets
when we went through. Moral of the story - RIDE LEGAL! We met up with other members of the Weedsport
Winter Wanderers and we all went to the Little Sodus Inn for lunch. They weren't quite prepared for the group they got
for lunch, and we weren't the only club to arrive. After lunch, we decided to head up to the lake and then back home.
The rest of the WWW members decided to head around through Fulton and back. Sure wish we had more time to ride,
it was an awesome day!
February 23, 2008 - A few of us got together to ride up north.
We dropped off at Two Guys from Italy in C-Square. That was a mistake. The first 12 miles were rough to put it
nicely. After that they were great. We rode to the Tug Hill Inn for lunch and then headed back home. The
ride got a bit rough from traffic on the way back. The picture of the gorge by Flat Rock is courtesy of Jim Chehovich
who rode with a group of his friends.
February
28, 2008 -- A small group of us rode the local trails today and went down to Cortland. We made a quick stop in Bear
Swamp and then headed on to Applebee's in Cortland for lunch. We asked the waitress to take our picture but as you can
see, it didn't turn out well. The trails were unbelievable! A little rough in a couple spots but overall they
were nice! It felt good to be on home turf!
March 14, 2008 - Bill Bibbens invited a group of us to join him and
Wayne at SnoFest 2008 dealer preview day in Old Forge. We were able to ride prototypes of the 2009 models.
Our first group test ride was with Ski-doo. We had a choice of riding the 1200 4-Tec or the 600 E-Tec. The
only real complaint was that we wish the ride could have been longer. A few of us have ordered new '09's and
we can't wait to get our hands on them! Along with testing the Ski-doos, we also had the opportunity to ride the Yamahas.
Our first ride out on them was a bit of a disaster. Donna followed last in our group on a 2009 Vector, followed
by one of the "tour guides". As soon as she crossed the rode, she knew something couldn't be right. There was
absolutely no controlling the sled. After a couple of minutes she had to stop and make the guide switch sleds.
At that point, we lost them. When we stopped to switch sleds amongst the group, we noticed she was missing. Uh
Oh! John wasn't very impressed with his Phazer either. He kept bottoming out and swaying all over.
We all met up and headed back after a very short ride. Come to find out the Vector had a broken A-Arm and the Phazer
had a blown shock. We went back out and tried them again - minus Donna who had enough of the Yamaha experience, and
Allen. Whoa! What a different experience this was! We rode fast and hard! When we returned, we overheard
the lead "tour guide" tell someone "those Ski-doo guys ride fast!" Thanks to Bill and Wayne for inviting us. We
had a great time!
March 28, 2008 - 3 of us took advantage of the freak storm we
got and decided to ride locally today. We headed south to Bear Swamp. The trails were pretty nice in most
areas. When we hit the Benson Rd area it was pretty iffy and Rick turned back because his oil light came on, but we
pushed on. We had low snow for about a mile and a half. We were glad we kept going! As you can see,
we were breaking trail in 8 - 12 inches of new snow. It was great! John and I stopped at the Colonial Lodge for
a quick lunch before heading back home. As we got closer to home the trails were starting to melt with the sun but for
the most part they held up. Not bad for the last ride of the season. See you next year!
