The Model
The
carving of ship models is a craft seldom practiced in these times. A century ago, carving was an art revered by
sailors while at sea. Sailcraft Models recaptures those glorious times with true, museum quality half models of sailing
ships, both old and new.
From small day sailers to whaling ships, each model is hand
carved under full sail. Beautiful woods grace these models with, basswood, black walnut, ebony,
maple, Phillippine, and Honduras mahogany. The finished model is a piece of art for you to hang in your office, or give
as a treasured gift or racing trophy.
Sailcraft Models offers an exstensive selection of half models
to choose from, with over 2000 plans available. Each model is hand carved with the attention to accuracy, then signed
and numbered by the craftsman, Everett Peterson. The appearance of each model is unique with different wood grains.
All models come with a wooden storage and shipping box to
assure protection whenever they are moved. Basic models are mounted on a plaque mesuring 7-1/4" x 10-1/4".
Prices vary by the number of sails and the model size, starting ar $159. Larger models quoted on request.
Delivery time varies, often three weeks, will confirm.
The Craftsman
Everett
Peterson continues a seventy five year family tradition with his Sailcraft Models. His father, Elmer carved trail boards
and figureheads for famous sailing vessels. He also carved half models which are now displayed in a university
museum.
Born and raised in Massachusetts, Everett has been working
with wood from the age of eight. Either as a hobby making toys and furniture, or building an addition to his home.
In 1982 he started carving half models. A craft he observed his father doing in the 1930's and 40's.
Everett has carved more than six hundred models in twenty
five years. These models have been shipped throughout the United States and as far as Australia and New Zealand.
