Here are some great research sites (and some are just for fun):

  • 100 Genealogical Resources to Discover Your Ancestry - A list of 100 websites to browse through.
  • Ancestors - FREE - The companion web site to the PBS family history and genealogy television series. Free lessons, and a lot of good information for beginners.
  • Ancestry - SUBSCRIPTION - We all know this one. It is a subscription service. If you need a lookup done, we're happy to assist.
  • Bucks County Free Library - FREE - If you have a library card and a PIN number, you can access the following subscription sites through the Bucks County Free Library System: Heritage Quest and the History Reference Center.
  • Castle Garden Immigration Center - FREE - Access to an extraordinary database of information on 10 million immigrants from 1830 through 1892, the year Ellis Island opened. Over 73 million Americans can trace their ancestors to this early immigration period.
  • Colonial Ancestors - Find information about Colonial Pennsylvania Genealogy to help with your genealogy research and to find your Pennsylvania surnames and ancestors.
  • Distant Cousin - FREE - An online archive of genealogy records and scanned images of historical documents from a wide variety of sources, such as newspaper obituaries, city directories, census records, ship lists, school yearbooks, military records, and more. In all there are more than 6 million genealogy records from over 1,500 sources online.
  • Ellis Island - FREE - Port of New York records search. For three decades, from 1892 to 1924, Ellis Island was the Gateway to America, a place that welcomed millions of immigrants to this country.
  • Family History Made Easy - FREE - Genealogy podcasts.
  • Find a Grave - FREE - Find the graves of ancestors, create virtual memorials, add 'virtual flowers' and a note to a loved one's grave, photos, etc. Add your ancestors if they aren't already there.
  • Family Search - FREE - Home of the International Genealogical Index.
  • Footnote - FREE and SUBSCRIPTION - A place where original historical documents are combined with social networking in order to create a truly unique experience involving the stories of our past. The Footnote.com collections feature documents, most never before available on the Internet, relating to the Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WWII, US Presidents, historical newspapers, naturalization documents, and many more.
  • Genealogy Bank - SUBSCRIPTION - Search the largest newspaper
    archive for family history research.
  • GenMates - FREE - Genealogists are great networkers, as the many forums that cater to them demonstrate. With GenMates you now have the opportunity to take your genealogy and family research to the next level. With GenMates, you can make new friends around the world, share your research, and seek help from other genealogists, but also you can do so much more.   • National Archives - FREE - The National Archives offers insight into the lives of people, their families and our history. Because the records at the National Archives come from every branch of the Federal government, almost all Americans can find themselves, their ancestors, or their community in the archives.
  • Olden Times - FREE - Old obituaries, birth & marriage announcements, old news stories,  old advertising, recipes, cartoons and humor, and more. All are original issues of 18th, 19th and early 20th century  newspapers from the U. S., England, Scotland, Australia & Ireland. Most of the newspapers date between 1788 and 1920.
  • One Step Web Searches - FREE - Stephen P. Morse found that many of the genealogy database websites are not easy to use.  And those that aren't don’t always offer all the versatility that is possible.  For that reason he created alternate ways of accessing some of these websites.  In addition, he has developed some of his own databases and programs to facilitate doing genealogical research. 
  • PA Historical Records Access - FREE - Currently, regardless of how long ago a person has died, all death certifcates recorded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 1906 have restricted access. Visit this site to see how you can help request that Pennsylvania's records accessible to us all.
